Fabia vRS - running in?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

First (introductory) post for me. I'm picking up my silver Fabia vRS this weekend and wondered if anyone had any "running-in" advice for me. This will be the first new car I've bought and I've seen various ideas about what should be done, ranging from "keep below 2500rpm for 1st 1000 miles" to "drive it hard to bed the piston rings in".

Anyway, looking forward to the weekend although a bit sad about losing my 1996 Mini Cooper SPi.

Hi Dan - welcome! :)

This has been discussed a few times before (as you might imagine) - try having a glance at this thread:

Not had my Furby vRS long either - just done 1k miles. I'm taking the gentle route (when I can remember!) 'cos I'm planning on keeping mine for YEARS...

It's a fantastic car, so why not, eh? ;)

Welcome to this site Dan.

My vRS has done just over a 1000 miles. I have avoided foot to the floor acceleration and heavy braking. Trying to keep the revs below 3000 has been difficult but on the other hand do not allow the engine to labour in high gear at very low revs.

PS check oil every week , ( mine has used less than a 1/4 of a litre ) , have a go at taking the wheels off and trying to get them back on , put copper grease on back of alloys so you know you can get them off again.

Hi Dan and welcome,

I've done about 940 in mine now and have been keeping it below 3000 revs apart from a few brief moments. Looking forward to the 1000th mile :)

TBH the engines don't need running in as the tolerances are alot better with new materials and machining techniques, but the car manufactures always play it safe. But one thing you shouldn't do is labour the engine.
