Engine Managment Light

Featured Replies

Hi, I have just baught a Fabia Tdi 2001 and I have noticed that when I turn on the engine I do not get any signs of the Engine Managment light coming on could this meen the bulb has blown?

Thank you

I think that the dash lights are LEDs soldered to the circuit board aren't they? So not bulbs that can be replaced. Perhaps the connection to the circuit board has broke?

May have been blanked off or disconnected by seller. Common dodge to hide engine faults.

Also the car seems to be running fine drove it 100 miles and no problems and seems good on fuel too. the car has only covered 38000 miles and its on a x/2001 so not many mileage and it also passed its MOT with no advisory so im hoping theres nothing wrong with the engine.

Involves removing the instrument cluster and checking to see if light has been covered with tape, or even unsoldered from the instrument PCB (lights are surface mount LEDs)

Not too difficult, but instrument panel is delicate, so care needed. It's removed by using the steering wheel adjuster to lower the steering wheel as low as it will go, and then prising off the cover between the top of the steering column and dash. There are two screws to remove, then instrument panel can be pulled out, and wiring connectors removed.

Best option, would be to have the car scanned for fault codes. Plenty people on here with VAGCOM, who will be willing to help for beer tokens

Where are you, as has been said, there are loads of us with VAG COM, or VCDS as its now known!

If you localish to me, I am more than willing to help out!

Hi I live in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire but will be moving down to Plymouth in 2 weeks, do you think it will be of for now to drive?

Thanks again

Thomas

Hi, I started a thread with a similar problem. Also my ABS and brake lights don't come on. Might be worth you checking your other lights to make sure they all come on when they should.

Not got mine sorted, yet, next stage for me is to get it on a scanner and see if I get any fault codes.

Hi I have been reading a few posts mentioned in some Audi forums and a few people mention the same thing as my fabia no EML coming on when starting car and someone states that as the car are older than 2001 they were not fitted to diesels as they used the glow plug warning light to indicate problems, I am wondering if this might be the same for my Fabia (hope so) the car seems to be running fine and passed its MOT with no problems, so fingers crossed.

Thanks

I appreciate that your new here and may not want to hassle other members getting it scanned. But its far the simplest method to make sure everything is okay or otherwise.

Take a look at the VAG-COM section of the forum and find a member who is local to you.

Oh, and welcome to the site :D

Just looked in the owners handbook (page 60) and there is a * next to electronic engine management
