Forge FMIC - Laggy?

Featured Replies

I've just fitted a Forge FMIC to my re-mapped vRS.

Very nice bit of kit, bit of a sod to fit but I got there in the end.

What I'm wondering though, is it normal for it to be a bit laggy? The only reason I ask is the other threads I've read on this people say that they don't really get lag.

Mine is now pretty laggy right at the bottom end and then when it comes on boost (2.5k ish?) it pulls much harder.

I don't mind it to be honest, I just want to make sure it's OK :)

Hi,

This can happen in some cases. The air that's under pressure from the turbo has to travel further due to the larger intercooler before it is fed into the inlet manifold; this (in some cases) can cause a tiny drop in initial pressure. It might be worth getting your map tweaked to take into consideration your new FMIC.

Most boost settings are dependent on intake temps i.e. when temps get too high the boost is retarded so not to destroy anything. Taking this into consideration you might be able to run a touch more boost – mid/high revs too.

Brilliant, thanks Steve.

I don't mind really, makes it a bit more fun!

Except when I get beaten off the lights! Haha

Sounds like you need a bigger turbo to fill up that FMIC then!

It's a bit of a waste if you don't......

I'm glad someone has been honest. I've talked to many who have fitted the Forge FMIC about the lag subject & they told me they haven't had any.

It's definately there mate, not 4000rpm lag like my mate's Cossie but it's noticeable.

Some really slow, sub 10mph corners are now just a throttle/clutch balancing act.

The top end rush really makes up for it though!

I have heard of this happening, but to be honest I never had this issue with my ProAlloy FMIC when I had my standard KO3s setup on....very strange as their design isn't too different.

It might be a matter of having my map altered like you said I guess. It's got a Revo Stage 1.

It has got a TIP, DV, Green filter and soon to have a full system fitted so it'd probably be wise for me to get the car checked by JKM anyway.

Cheers :)

The Forge FMIC is huge and suitable for a big turbo. I wouldn't use one that big for the k03s but thats my opinion :)

I had more lag when I had the Pro Alloy on a standard turbo.

When I had the ABD fmic fitted it was less laggy.

Could be down to the fact it was running more boost with the bigger fmic though.

You have the same set up as me regarding the Revo stage 1, although I have ABD CAI.

Before the REVO stage 1, I had a postal remap that was ok. Then I fitted the Forge FMIC, and also experienced the initial lag you talk about. These cars are a little hesitant low down the rev range in standard trim, so i was expecting a little more lag. In no way does it cause issues and I did drive with slightly different clutch / accel pedel to compensate. Now I have the REVO stage 1(Good job JKM!) which is customisable the lag is not there anymore. I have almost the max setting on Stage 1 (level 8 I think) due to the Forge FMIC being able to take more boost, and all the other bolt on mods that have been taken into account.

Going for the Stage 2 in a few weeks.

Ah that's confirmed it all Mark thanks mate :)

My remap was done before the FMIC so it is probably set at a lower stage.

I'm seriously considering the stage 2, I believe it's pretty cheap...

As you have the stage 1 already will cost you £50 + vat for stage 2 and around £50 + vat for the 4 bar fuel regular(needed to pump more fuel in to support the more aggressive tune)
