clutch and flywheel change???

Featured Replies

I’m looking to change my clutch before it starts to slip... I wont it done when it goes in for its timing belt.

Ive been given some stupid quotes:confused:, from £280-£1200:eek:

1. Can someone please tell me weather I should change the flywheel as well as the clutch???

2. What price I should be paying???

3. What clutch do people recommend???

It’s got 87,000 on the clock.

One of the most expensive parts in replacing the clutch is the labour

I must admit , I reccomend to people the ECS stage 1 kit

That comes with a single mass flywheel

So that will replace clutch plate , pressure plate , release bearing too and the single mass flywheel

It is uprated and the flywheel will last the lifetime of the car

£275 + VAT for the job lot , and in stock with us ;)

It is along the same lines as the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch kit

Smashing little kit

I would say , if your going down the route of changing clutch , do everything

That SMF can give a tad extra chatter in neutral , put your foot on the clutch pedal and it will go

petrols dont seem to suffer as much as diesels too

Has anyone on here go one fitted???

On 2 vw forums some one has told me that the larger flywheel would be best, I manly drive around the doors and stop-start traffic in town, im not wonting to be sitting for 15mins strait with my foot on the clutch...

Im still weary of putting a single mass wheel on encase it "judders" when im trying to pull away.

The only person I know with an up rated clutch is a seat Leon who used the original flywheel with a black diamond clutch.

im a little confused and scared that ill hate it when its done.

where abouts in the country are you??

you will find a performance one will prob be cheaper than your oem.:D

87K is not a lot of miles for a mk1 clutch, it should if driven normally still have loads of life left in it. The standard clutch should last well in excess of 100K miles. One remapped mk1 vrs was on the original clutch at 150K.

newcastle....

I think im guna go for the ecs or put a black diamond on a dmf. Im just after reassurance that if I go for the ecs one and the heavier flywheel, that its not guna judder and rattle basically.

Ive found a dmf for 275inc vat on the net but im guna have a word with a lad that works a vw see if I can get a genuine one on trade. I don’t wona ripped off and put any cheep Chinese copy on my car.

That’s nice to know then, im looking to do it along with the timing belt and water pump. I just dint wont to have to pay labour twice.

This is the first car I’ve had with a dmf or hydraulic clutch....

If you want to sell the light weight smf PM me as i will have it if the price is right and then you can buy a dmf.

If you can get Jason`s SMF then it is just the VR6 clutch kit

A few bolts and then your there ;)
