Replacing Brakes... how to?

Featured Replies

OK, Thanks to all who helped me out with the decision as to what brake components to use when replacing mine. (Octy vRS)

I am fitting black diamond discs & pads... all round (pads are a similar compound to DS2500's? i seem to remember reading)

Can anyone advise of the difficulty level of fitting the new parts? I've never done anything to the brake system before, but if possible would like to fit them myself. My only concern is that they are a very important component of the car!

If I do do it I will try to compile a how-to...

Thanks in advance for any advice..

There's already a 'How to' somewhere on the forum, just do a search for 'Brake' and you'll find it, I say it yesterday.

Here it is;

Out of interset, where did you get the pads and discs from and how much - I'm just in the process of hunting around for the best option / price.

Thanks for the link!

As an aside, needforspeed advertise that they may do discounts for clubs etc... not sure whether it'd be worth doing though.

Only bit of advice I can add is allow loads of time if youve never done it before as rushing can equal **** up in my experience.

Get the brake winding tool from Halfords....Sykes & Pickavants......can't remember the product number.

You need it for the rear brakes definately and it'll help for the fronts.

Don't do the rear without it or you'll knacker the ABS!

Hi...

Well today was the day... and I have successfully managed to put my new rear brakes on the car :)

However, came across two problems on the front brakes.

1. The new pads have a female connector on them... which is opposite to the OEM pads. Can I just plice the wires with the old version? and tape them up nicely?

2. The single screw holding the old discs wouldn't budge on the left side. Any advice on how to loosen this without destorying the head of the screw?

Eventually had to leave current set on the front for the time being. Any advice how to get past these two problems?

Thanks K

You need an impact driver to get the screws out, if that fails try and spin the screw with a drift or drill it out.

Thanks Ross. I'll give the impact driver a go. Any Idea what size/type the screw is in case I need to drill it out?
