Fly Eyes Kit - Mongrel's rear lights get tinted. Pics

Featured Replies

I like the concept, but I just think they are a tad dark. Don't look shabby at all though! :)

Got any photos of them lit up?

How does this compare to the Lamin-X film as heard good and bad reports on that?

I'll get some shots of them lit up with just lights, and brake lights, at night - Once I get my car back from the paintshop. In the meantime, for comparison, can someone post pics of their untinted lights on at night, both with just lights, then with brakes? (With flash off :))

so who's going to be the first to do their headlights then??

(I think I might try it...:D :D :D)

No way! :D (although the lightest grade might not be too harmful to the beam pattern / effectiveness?)

I emailed the company with a pic of the front of my car to see what it might look like, and asked whether they could confirm legality/MOT conformity on the headlights; so watch this space...

I think it might be dodgy ground given the 4 page A4 print I got with my kit, which appeared copied from VOSA's mot guidance on headlights / beam / tinting, etc etc. ;)

It looks great IMHO .. temptation strikes :D

Here are some of mine they sent back to me, it also states:

All our tints are fully MOT certified and do not change your Light Output, colour or Brightness to your vehicle!

Well they offered to sell me the kit, suggested I fit it to my headlights and take it to my MOT station. If they sat they would fail it, I get a full refund.

How long did the kit take to come Jason? i think i will order some for the front of my black fabia tonight. i will post pics once it arrives.

Arrived with 48 hours of ordering and paying for it on fleabay. If for the front, I would ask for the lightest shade to avoid any unwanted attention from the law. :)

You know what.

For the price I might as well chuck some on the front and back and see what it looks like.

It will be a while until I get the car back but I'll chuck some pictures up when it's done.

You'll probably need 2 kits then. I used about 2/3 of mine to do both rear lights.

However, if you're getting the darkest shade, I could send you my leftover bit for a nominal sum (£5 all in?) as it's useless to me now really - I have 45cm of the original 127cm tint (x 32cm across) enough for one light for sure.

After reading this I ordered two sheets of the stuff, I used 1 sheet on the two rear lights, 1 front lamp and 1 indicator so it goes quite far.

I'm going to the MOT place on Friday to ask if they would pass it.

I really like it on the front but how much has it reduced the light output?

  • Author

It shouldn't reduce light output, and hopefully the MOT visit will ensure this is the case. Would be cool to leave one untinted and do an output test on each. :)

On the 1st pic I left it like that for 2 days because I didn’t have time to do them both. I did take pics bit forgot the memory card was in the camera bag:thumbdwn:, It is a little bit distorted comparing the two but not as much as say a dirty headlamp

I'll see what the garage says, and for reference both are the darker shade.

I'm reading this with interest, as I've encountered cars with excessively / incorrectly tinted rear lights at night, on some the rear number plate light has been brighter than the reds. Especially disconcerting on unlit stretches of Autobahn where your approach speed may be a little higher.

Obviously I'm not suggesting this particular product would have that negative effect, but the MOT results may be interesting.

To resurect an old thread. I had my MOT on Saturday with the FlyEyes on both the front and back as above. It passed both without even an advisory.

Hi guys... really interested in getting some of this for the rear lights on my black Fabia.

In the ebay ad it shows them tinting the rear lights of a scoob without taking the light clusters out (i.e. on the car) and then just cutting around... would this work ok with the Fabia?

Also, i'm 18 so if i ever DO have to make an insurance claim, then all eyes will most likely me on me for the fault regardless of whether i actually did anything wrong or not! (lovely i know...) so will these need to be notified as a mod to my insurance? The car is otherwise completely standard.

Thanks alot guys... any more nice little mod ideas would be great. I'm thinking stealthy... ;)

Sorry to pull this up again, the question of the Reflectors on the rear of the car?

There is a lot of talk about the Output of the light! what about the reflectiveness of them.

Are the rear lights still reflective from incoming light?

B)

i cut out the film over the reflectors.. its real simple.. and looks flash

I have this stuff on my rear clusters and front fogs.

I was dubious of its properties but was surprised to see the rear lights

are almost as bright as they are without it on,

I removed the rear clusters to do them but did the fogs on the car.

I only removed the rears so I could properly clean them so the stuff would stick well.

The beam pattern is very slightly distorted on the front fogs but the spread of light is the same.

I think as a product I'd give it 8 out of ten. Losing 2 points only for the horrid smell you have

to endure during application.
