800 miles on a tankful 1.8tdi 130

Featured Replies

My petrol Passat returned an average of 40 mpg, so I was hoping for quite a bit better from the diesel Superb, and have finally beaten 800 miles on a single tank. (800.4 to be precise). This was 2-1/2 weeks of normal driving - mostly 35 mile motorway trips, but with 100 miles or so of 5 mile, barely-get-warmed-up ones: for the last mile or so, the trip computer predicted 0 miles range, but it got home without any bother.

How embarrassing! Yes it really is 1896cc!, but driven very gently.

read it wrong, comment no longer apropriate, that's 66.6 mpg btw working on a 12 gallon tank, but I think you'll find the filter and the lines hold a fair bit more to add to the 12 gallons, probably worked out to around 60 mpg in the end.

That would be double what I get from a 2.5 TDi then! Probably becuase I drive like a tool though

Coming back from Cornwall to Manchester on Sunday with 4 people and a boot full of luggage, I got 51.1 mpg according to the computer on my 2.5 TDi. Probably a genuine 46 or so mpg?

I got 635 miles from a slowly brimmed tank on shell v power[all motorway]

Skip, stop bull****ting or I'll speak to Toots about you. :)

It works out at around 71 to the gallon for 12.5 gallons there was approximately 30 mpg left in the tank

It was nearly all motorway driven at an indicated 60 to 70 mph except for 63 miles up the A7.

Where you been hiding CC :rofl2:

Why don't people (especially with a diesel) fill up before leaving the continent, despite the gap narrowing in the last few years they are still over 10p a liter cheaper than the UK

This i find strange, my fuel light always comes on when there is about a gallon left in the tank, so if i have been averaging 50mpg it comes on with approx 50 miles left.

From what you have just said yours is coming on when there is less than half a gallon left?

Of course it also depends on whether your speedometer is accurate a 10% error would make that 720 miles to a tank ;):)

Pretty impressive though

In Calais on Saturday the price for diesel was 1.17 Euro per litre , thats about £1 provided you can get a decent rate when the credit card company exchange for you.

So a saving of 3.9 pence per litre at best (For me in my area) , by the time you take into account the mpg difference from carrying the extra weight of a full tank for longer i doubt there is anything in it

Ah Skippy, i just noticed yours is an Octavia, so your mpg is about right for 'a good un' on a steady run, i regularly could get 75mpg out of my Octavia (110 Elegance) if i tried.

Where did you fill up?

I paid just over 1 Euro from City Europe the previous Wednesday.

That was for our superb 130 tdi don't forget the filler tube holds about a gallon as well
