Not getting on with Olympus SP590UZ

Featured Replies

I'm beginning to thing I bought the wrong camera to replace my trusty Sony DSC-H2

I'm not really getting on with the Olympus. I have problems with it changing reds to pink in certain light, which looks like it might be a quirk of the camera.

Have taken some decent shots, but that Sony Alpha 200 kit that's on special offer in the shop is looking very tempting.

dunno about the pics i'm a photophobic , but you dont half live in a nice place and the dogs cool , cats got big feet tho eh?

Had a quick looksee on t'net and could only see this mentioned in one review -

Auto WB worked well in most situations, but shot a bit warm under both incandescent light in the studio and fluorescent light at our house.

I'd have said your pics showed more than 'a bit warm' !

Can you take the camera back and try another sample ?

Hope you get it sorted

I know I'm a FZ28 Panny fan but the new FZ38 looks very good indeed - admittedly only 18 x zoom but they seem to have improved any minor niggles the FZ28 had.

I'd have one next week (well, month) if only for the very fast focus improvement (approaching DSLR), if wifey would let me :o

Edit

And one use'rs comments on the 570UZ

"CONS: IQ is quite terrible IMHO. Lower light situations produce noise quickly as the ISO rises. Image stabilization is really not effective and images are almost all somewhat soft or blurred. Color balance out of the box is far from accurate. Blown highlights, blue fringing at high contrast margins in shots, and hunting for focus in low light situations add to the grab bag of issues optically."

I'm thinking of sending it back with some sample images and seeing what the manufacturer's repair agents make of it. I'm really not that impressed for more money than the FZ28 :(

I kinda rushed into picking a camera because the insurance people were on the phone and wanted to repair my old one for almost the cost of buying new - wish I'd taken more time now.

I bought the SP565UZ a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier with it

Well impressed with the pictures I took at The Skoda National Rally in July

Maybe you just got 'the bad one' and I hope you get it sorted soon.

WOW, that fridge magnet is a bit OTT:D

This is promising - from Olympus support:

Hi Rob

I have just done some testing here with our camera indoors with office

lighting and the reds are coming out red as they should. You will need to

send the camera for further testing with our technicians. As we do not

require any accessories, if you can take some sample shots of a red subject

and store them using the internal memory, when you send or bring the camera

in for testing you can make a note that you have images on the internal

memory of what is happening.

How's this - just as it came off the memory card!

I trust you've tried a hard reset of all the factory default settings. When you take a pink picture also try taking one of a white card at the same time, although I'm sure the repair people will do the same.

Fingers crossed :)
