Anyone else got 'Foosty' Window Seals?

Featured Replies

I've noticed for a while now that the 'felt like' trim behind all the window rubbers is getting greener by the day. The car doesn't sit under any tree's or anything. It does get washed regularly, but more often than not is dried off. Yes we have a lot of rain up here...but I've never had anything like this with any other cars before. The only thing I can tie it too is the fact that I've had chronic problems with fogging up inside - but I don't think it's really to do with that.

Does anyone else have this problem, any suggestions on how to fix/remove or is it a take it to a dealer job...would they even look at this under warranty?

Mine is the same!! Probably the same symptoms with Irish weather being similar to you in Scotland!!

Could be completely wrong but I'd also think it's got to do with damp climate?

I get the same on mine, although I cant remember it been so noticable until recently and I have had the car over 4 years?

I get it now and again. More noticable given the last 3 wet summers. Get some Polycell mould killer and brush (not spray) it on the affected areas. I also use it on my Fabia to treat the trim under the roof bars.

Interesting replies guys...DarrenW I will have a look at that stuff, if I decide to tackle this myself.

I am guessing Skoda will tell us it's one of those "features/characteristics" or whatever they call something they don't fancy fixing !

My motor is just over 2yrs old. I noticed this problem was present soon after I bought it, at 9 months old...but it's got a lot worst, to the point where it is now very ugly !

It's just another wee niggle, to add to the others which the dealer has failed to find/diagnose or fix, otherwise it's a cracking motor.

Oh, and what ever you do, don't try to just pull the trim off. They can bend really easily.

Cheers DW...not many of us it seems then ! Must be the weather !

I've got the same on my Octavia in the English Midlands. Mind you it doesn't get washed very often so that may be a factor fro me.

Had the same on my old Passat and SWMBOs cars. Wash with the usual soapy stuff you clean the car with. Worked for me. A nail brush used gently will help with nooks and crannies. Wind window down and wash inside of seal gently with a cloth .

The mould cleaner stuff may help to stop algae coming back.

or an old toothbrush
