I've just realised that I've owned cars from the 4 main brands in the VAG line up.

VW Scirocco, Jetta, Golf

Audi 80

Seat Toledo

and now Skoda Octavia

Anyone else done that?

Must try a Bugatti next

What about an Auto-union... cheap as well, might have aproblem getting spares though.

Saw that on Top Gear, so i'll give them a miss.

I don't have a preference for VAG cars just the way it worked out. In fact I don't go along with the whole VAG reliability thing, and I think most Volkswagens and Audis are over-priced. Seats and Skodas are much better value.

The scirocco was first but it was only a 1.6 CL so nothing special, but i had always liked the looks of them. A written off Chrysler Alpine meant i needed a car quick and a friend of my dad's was selling it.

Then came the jetta as a 2nd car. It was a 1.3 with only 4 gears, the slowest car i have ever owned, and had a permanent water leak in the boot, which i never worked out where it was coming from.

The Golf replaced the Scirocco, a Mk2 GTI 8v, great fun, cant remember why we sold it, but the previous owner bought it back off us.

The Audi 80 replaced the Jetta, this was a brilliant car a 1.8 petrol, very comfy and great on a long drive. I think I would still have it if it hadn't got written off in an accident.

As a result needed a car in a hurry and got a Mazda MX6, 2.5 V6 auto. Very nice car, great to look at but only averaged 22mpg, and when wifey started doing a 80 mile commute we needed a diesel.

That got us the Toledo 1.9tdi se, decent enough car, and way cheaper than a Golf/A3.

Then came the Skoda when we needed someting a little bigger. The Toledo started getting lots of faults, and we didnt do the miles to need a diesel any more.

Very happy with the Octavia so far, and will keep it for a few years yet.
