who feels the vrs pdtdi isn't really that fast:( I wasn't expecting a porsche but it dosen't feel much quicker than my old 207 150 gt. I know weight is an issue, but reading on here about how fast people feel their unmodded vrs tdi's are and being pulled back by acceleration into seats etc, i'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with mine? I have had diesels before and don't expect fast off the line, but even second and third don't pull as hard as 170 ps and 260lb torque would have made me think, especially going up inclines. Don't get me wrong, i love the car, it suits my demands of it and wouldn't swap it, but all the talk of the tdi being faster than the petrol seems off the mark to me and mine seems warm rather than hot-but glad i get nearly 500 miles to the tank. Maybe it is faster than i think, but the poise of the car deceives me:confused:

i had the mk5 golf gttdi 170 as a hire car once and i really didnt like the engine at all. not sure if it was PD or CR though.

I do prefer to drive petrols though so i am biased

I have a Fabia vRS pd130, totally standard and would class it as a 'warm' hatchback.

I find the best performance is acheived at between 1900-3500 rpm and is very driveable within this rev-range.

Don't know what mileage you have on yours, but they do loosen up nicely as the miles go on....

indeed, maybe its expectation rather than reality. I think the marketing as a hot hatch has ramped my expectations too high. It's done 16000 miles, so i would have thought it couldn't loosen up much more:rolleyes: Still, I love the car and that's what counts:)

Stick it on a RR or do it with Dynlocious, get an idea of what it's putting out?

You know what marketing is like :rotz:

Still think you will see an improvement when it passes 20k ;)

I am sure others will comment.....

just enjoy

My understanding is that VAG has had such a nightmare with 170 tdi DPF equiped cars that a fix was a map change that reduces power to 150 Bhp to reduce fuelling and DPF's clogging.

I know this is the case on a number of Audi A3's, but don't know if this has been applied to Vrs's also.

Personally, when I get some free time I'm going to book myself into P-Torque for the Dpf removal and remap. -- roll on circa 230bhp and a torque mountain:)

blimey-down to 150 ps:eek: i wouldn't be happy with that. Not heard of that on skoda and the dpf remap hasn't done that to the guys on here who rolling roaded it after. Wouldn't that break trade descriptions:confused:

I have a vague memory of lots of people finding their 170 PDs were putting out closer to 185hp when they dyno tested them, maybe after the DPF problems VAG remapped them to produce the 170 they were supposed to make (most people would notice a 15hp difference).

mmm, I wondered about that, although mine was done when i bought it so I wouldn't know. I do have a recollection that bahnstormer vrs had his dynod before and after and there wasn't much in it so i guess without me shelling out to test mine, i'll never know:rolleyes:

after owning a Fabia vRS with 173bhp, i have come to the following conclusion:

Fabia is quicker off the mark but runs out of puff

Octy takes more time to get going but once 'on boost' it pulls longer and harder and a look at the speedo will tell you that it does pick up speed quite quickly.

Did your car feel fast when you first had it,and as just gradually not felt as fast now you have drove it for some months this is just a normal reaction. That's usually when the modding bug starts to get you and your thinking of all the mods you can do to make it feel fast again like when you drove it for the first time.Or has it just felt not as fast as you expected from the start.Mine launches forward and goes very nicely/crazy.Maybe you could try driving another one other than your own and see if it still feels the same to you.

the above is very true.

i thought stage 1 was awesome but then i got used to it.

Same with stage 2, i thought it was ferocious but now i dont( sometimes think it isnt running as well as before, but a couple timed runs confirm it is).

Now im going to stage 2+- the question is how long will that last???

Get yourself a remap, the difference is huge. i went back to std map a few months back for a long journey, and ended up stopping to reload the remap back on because the car felt rubbish.

the car certainly felt faster when i bought it, except first gear which is useless, and i'm sure i have got used to it. i know when i look at the speedo i am going quick, but don't feel the buzz. if i can convince my other half that a remap is a good idea for economy to meet her eco warrior leanings, i can feel a bluefin coming on in the next few months:D

My ''standard'' 56 plate 170PD FR is running at 192bhp on RR last year. But maybe thats because I put on a Halfords black tax disc holder.

bluefin offer money back on their remp if fuel economy isnt improved. What more do you want. I always tell my missus there are problens with the car. she thinks its really badly built cos things keep breaking.

as far as she knows my fuel pump isnt providing enough fuel so she let me get the autotech internals haha. She even said we will never get anotherskoda again lol.

Ha, ha, I know the feeling, although she is becoming suspicious as it won't be the first time I have tried that tack:rofl:

Interesting about the BHPs on the standard cars chaps, a small note of the 170 CR from an ex 1.8T user here:

I have had my CR TDI (09 LE) now since I joined the forum in mid June now it is at 2K on the clock, I went from a Petrol 1.8T 05 VRS to the 2.0L 170bhp CR unit. One reason I did so was the economy of the petrol unit TBH. I can easily say it has been a magical change in costs even after 6 weeks. Does not have the same pace off the mark as the 1.8T petrol, but more than makes up for that in 3rd and 4th gear, performance - this to me is a revelation. Another revelation is the Cruising on the motorway at 70-80mph in 6th gear the car goes on forever, wonderful MPG with response when you need it by dropping a gear.

Also worth noting that the insurance premium is much lower, a real surprise when I consider the performance of the car. My first diesel car and I am really chuffed with it, my second Skoda VRS and again no car in its class gets close for VFM when it comes to build, performance and the feeling you are driving a hidden gem no-one knows about.

Come on, don't copy your responses into multiple threads - I've read this once already and just wasted 60 seconds of my life reading it again!

Are you allowed to copy it if the OP asks a directly correlated question to what you have wrote somewhere else or do you just copy a link to what you have wrote, or do you just ignore the question?

Read faster then...

Know what you mean - had a TFSI petrol VRS before my TDI and it felt quite a bit quicker (including in gear punch).

The TDI takes a bit of getting used to after the TFSI, not the best engine I've ever had under the bonnet (personaly I think the 2.0TDI (140 bhp), delivers better performance in terms of all round drivability), but I think part of it is being down to the TFSI being such a brilliant engine!
