Remap Question

Featured Replies

I am buying a skoda fabia vrs which is 185 bhp at the moment due to james at JBS. I am 19 and to insure it at that sort of power will seriously destroy my bank. I have heard of something that i can switch between the stages. It is a 3 stage Remap. If not then will i have to go to a dealer to get it back to standard power?

Thanks

Sorry but thats bull. If "james" @ jbs has mapped it and you know this because "james" told you, the he must have also told you there is a 5 digit code in vag-com. Change the 1st digit on any custom-code diesel remap to a 0 (or whatever it hasnt already got) to 0/1 and it will be the base map file that is on the car.

If you are 19 and cant afford 185bhp, then dont have 185bhp? Its pretty simple really.

I know this is your 1st post, so wont go off on one, but mate a stage 3 remap on a PD130 gets you 220-240bhp. Not 185bhp. I think you mean a stage 2 which from memory I am yet to see a RR figure from CC/JBS on a none JBS/CC roller get 185.

Yea I have asked about getting the car back to standard power instead of keeping it at 185.

I said 3 stage Remap not stage 3. I don't really no what it means and should of explained it better but there are supposively 3 stages to this Remap. The person who owned it before said that it is a Custom remap.

Stage one being 130 BHP

Stage two being 150 BHP

Stage three being 185 BHP.

No it wont, but you cant stage 3 a remap without the rest? Sorry but a stage one remap isnt 130bhp is it? Thats standard? Nor is a stage two 150bhp?!

Stage One remap is a generic remap = 170/180bhp

Stage Two remap is for when you have, exhaust, fmic, filter etc = 180/200bhpish

Stage Three is for when you have TURBO plus above = 220-240bhp.

I of course must be wrong, as ive only had all three done... opppsss

Ahh stuff it dont tell em... you dont know right...

I'll get shot for this but who cares :D

LOL, to be fair no dealer checks anyway, and you can still smash up a car with 130bhp so I cant see the problem. That being said, all mine is declared down to the letter.

nah well i got my standard one from a dealer...

end up was remapped, had a pd160 and green cotton air filter... lol

Ive heard that a few times, mate of mine bought his from a dealer and think it was one of the lads car that was working there (standard of course) he said it felt rather pokey so I jumped in and was like "yeah feels like its got a very 'weak' remap on it" but as I hadnt been in a mapped PD130 for a while, was like but obv another mate with one that drives it daily will know better, so he got in took it for a spin and said "NOPE its standard" about 6 months later he took it up to RS Tuning for a remap and it ran 163bhp or something standard ;)

why has no one asked the question "Why dont you buy a standard VRS??"

i think what he was trying to say was that it has had 3 remaps

remap one being 130 BHP

remaptwo being 150 BHP

remap three being 185 BHP

TBH buy a standard one. Its not worth the hasstle trying to undo work thats been done

If the car is post 2005 model year and it has a BLT engine then it's almost certainly producing 140bhp as a minimum anyway. Mine was 148bhp on the rollers at Power Station, so I didn't bother getting a remap.

And always remember - a remapped car is worth less than a standard one. Sounds odd, but it's true.

Back to the main point. A remapped vRS vaires within insurance companies. Some have said that they wont Insure them, and other have added peanuts. If you talk in the right frame of mind i.e safer overtaking and better MPG, instead of POWER POWER POWER!!!!!! but at 19 on your own insurance, it will be expensive. I'm 21, and i pay £700 fully comp, with Suspension Mods, Tints, Air filter. no years no claims and no convictions.

My mate, told his insurance company that the decat, and ecu chip on his Jap Impreza WRX were for the fuel regulations, i.e so he would'nt have to top his car up with Octane boost ever time he filled up at Shell, and they didnt charge any extra!!

Good luck, performance cars for young people are always going to be expensive. Good luck anyway. Personally I agree with Jasc, you dont know do you.

Sorry i done a bit more reading and it is Phase one. It has just been remapped. The 3 stages that i was trying to explain are the different power outputs that are available when remapping a car. Sorry about all the confusion and thanks for all your help and advice

Just out of interest, on a generic remap what have you guys told your insurance companies in terms of bhp increase etc? Just wondering as im having mine done soon.
