Dog Bone Mount HELP!

Featured Replies

Hi,

ive just fitted a powerflex dog bone mount 2 my car yesterday , but the vibration is shocking :thumbdwn:, dont think i have fitted it wrong ,i also torqued the bolts up 2, i have read on here that u get vibration but this is unbearable:(. can any 1 help ?

cheers

hi, well i have a powerflex one too and it does vibrate worse for the first 100o miles ish.

To be fair i adjusted the idle in the end so the car wouldnt vibrate anywhere near as much which helped no end!

If you over torque it it can vibrate more though, did you torque it up to the corect amount? (the centre bolt)

i torqued the 4 bolts that fitthe bone 2 the body 2 horizontal 1s @ 20 fp and the vertical 1s @ 33 fp , got that info off SEATcupra.net

Dont worry, I did all my bolts up really tight, for the first 500 miles or so I had loads of vibration and cabin resonance on low revs pulling away and tickover, (I didnt alter my tickover RPM).

After about 500 miles or so vibration started to gradually reduce, now 6000 miles later almost non-existant.

Hang in there

hmm well doesnt seem like you have overtightend it from what i remember!

well they do take time to settle, i know some makes (powerflex) are meant to vibrate more than others, the bushes im now buying are superpro instead.

Give it 500-600 miles and see how it is.....its a pain till then!

ok guys , i will give it 2 weeks, i should cover about 500 miles in that time , cheers for the help

We've all been there

Mine wasn't too bad – I thought it made a lovely V8 grunt affect throught the cabin. Even SWMBO didn't notice, and now it's a little bit rough but not unbearable.

Which bush did you change? The 2-part rear bush or the circular front bush. It's the front one that really gives the vibes

If it's really that bad you could try one half original rubber and one half Powerflex. That'll ease the bad vibes

Edited by Jigger72

did you do both Jigger?

i only did the rear which is the one that everyone says is the better one to do so to speak, am going to do the circular one soon when my subframe is off though.

Superpro do an insert kit or a full kit if you can be bothered to get the old part out.

No, just the rear one. I'd heard horror stories about getting them both done, and besides, I like my teeth in my head

They both settle down after some miles, but I heard that you need patience and ear protecters with the circular bush. Good luck

i think im gonna need it lol!

no it was just the back 1s i did , if the front 1 is worse i dont think i will bother . lol

Yep same here after around 400 miles it starts to settle down and become much better. The difference to gear change and less engine gearbox movement is well worth the initial vibration.

I did have the powerflex bush but have since changed to Density Mount but i do spare dogbone mount that i have fitted front and back bushes into.I will post a review as i have to fit a full Superpro bush kit to my car later this month.

nice one jaymd!

same as everyone else says...mine drove me mad for a few weeks....but 5k in now and its settled...only notice a tiny vibration when i pull at very low revs doing a hill start, good luck :)

lol

I don't even notice mine anymore.

@Sweedish........How did you up the idle speed mate ????

I know it's not really the same but imagine one of these mounts on a vibey diesel. :D Mine's still not settled down and I think current vibes are here to stay. Saying that, it's only nasty on tickover and for the performance on the move, hell will freeze over before it comes off my car.

You should try the powerflex dog bone on a tdi :goodvibe::goodvibe::goodvibe: my god was it loud. It did settle down but I gave up after 15,000miles :D and went for the superpro.

Having said that the vrs should judder and vibrate alot less as it's a petrol, see how you get on but they do take time to bed in.

yes mines the same, the only time you can tell is on slight idle on an incline.

Fatty5000 I adjusted it through vag.com, i have a cable, its nice and easy to do, you just adjust the variables till it suits.

Do you have one too?

I got VCDS, So how do I do it ???

edit.....Is this what you did ???? (top of the page) http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/vwmkIV.html

thats the one matey, i tried all several times until i found the one that affected the car less, but its nice and easy you will have no problems......now if someone could tell me how to get a bhp reading from vag.com that would be something else:cool:

If you look on Cupranet theres a guide somewhere, it's a bit inaccurate apparantly but will give you an idea.

It's something like Maf flows times revs iirc.

HTH

I think it's

BHP at specific revs = MAF reading at specific revs / 0.8

Then torque at specific revs = (BHP at specific revs / specific revs)*5252

  • 2 weeks later...
