Mallory Park - full day - 29th November -

Evening All

Planning way way WAY ahead but the track day bug has bitten hard!

After a couple of days on airfield I think i might be ready for a proper race circuit and this one comes with the advantage of being dirt cheap and on a Sunday. Although given its the 29th of November it's likely to be soaking wet but you can't have it all! :D

Originally seen on trackdays.co.uk but a quick google tells me it's run by Javelin trackdays and its so cheap cos its an early booking offer.

At the moment this is nothing more than a "this is cheap so people might be interested" but funds permitting i may attend

Sadly, having done Mallory before, I will pass on this one. :)

Watch the first corner, it's not as simple as you might think... and in a front wheel drive car once you've got it wrong you can forget it!!

I might yet come  Could turn it into a long weekend with the relations who live only 10 miles or so from Mallory. Won't be able to say anything until Mid October though,

I was loooking at this one on javelin trackdaysd earlier and mentioned it to the wife. im tempted but unable to book this far in advance. however now im coming bk to uk ill def be at alot of track days.

i hear from sa guy i know who said he has done it before that mallory park is very good and for 99 quid who can argue anyway, that is cheap for an airfield day, let alone a track

I'd be good for this, nice and local too..

It's a bit far for me sadly :(

Whats the dB limit on this one please?

105dB

Ohhh thats abit better! I *should* be able to go on this one! Put me down as a very strong maybe indeed!

You've really got a tdi above 100db? :D

Emailed them last night asking how long the £99 special offer was running for and got a non commital:

The special offer is based on popularity and does not have a fixed time period.

I will not be able to guarantee the price, or that there will be places available, after your other tack day in early October

At present the website is showing 9 "confirmed" attendees and 3 "provisional"

But more importantly, below 105dB!

Here are two vids...

This 1st one is pre- hybrid PD150 turbo which on tick over at 2750rpm @ Cadwell Park was sound tested @ 101dB.

I know believe due to the bigger turbo and more power/boost that it is louder still, I dont have a full video but this was coming home from GTi Inters with a little 'blip' of the throttle in 1st!

I would assume its a tad louder than 101dB now-a-days, but I have a cunning plan which might work in the future to get onto tracks with lesser limits :D

A sticker over your dials which shows a much higher RPM?

Not sure if it makes any difference but they sound check at 4000rpm at the colerne event :)

You sir are nothing short of a genius! That is no doubt the best way to do it :D

Hmm, I was always under the impression they base it on your limiter. Aka mine "would" be alot louder at 4k then the likes of a highly modded 9k limiter car?

Example @ Cadwell they asked me where my limiter was, to which I replied 5k (not far off) so he told me to take it too 3k? Which I didnt, but he couldnt see that from where he was stood at a weird angle :D

Not motorsport events ltd, they sound check at 4k whatever the car as I understand it, definitely 4K for dervs anyway! :)

I can't believe that beezer is louder than mine. What's it had done exhaust wise?

Hmm really need to get mine sound tested!

EDIT - Jason - Just the full 2'5 exhaust system with no cat, and no boxes.

I was a tad worried when I went to cadwell before the new turbo as I thought it was pretty loud, so after signing on walked over to the two guys testing cars, and said how loud is 105dB and they said, ohh its loud. So I was like oh ok, just a tad worried mine wont pass (n00b moment) and they said oh well what car is it, so I pointed over to my Ibiza and just said "that one, the diesel" they just smerked and said it will be fine. So minutes later got it sound tested and the guy was like its passed, so i was like nice one, then he said "just" and said 101dB with a sort of surprised look on his face?

Sounds similar to mine - 3" DP to 2.5" exhaust pipe out the side, but I do have a landrover silencer in it which might take some of the edge off. I had to fit it in order to pass the MOT as mine was "well out" from a stock setup on a similar car. I think I was lucky to pass even with the silencer.

Interesting, as mine is "well out" from the 74dB or whatever they are standard? Yet mine passed a MOT last month or something? Hmm! I think I need to look at my down pipe, who did urs? I think that is restricting power a tad atm

i was at mallory today with the bikes and they didnt even test the sound of the bikes even though it was meant to be 103 max lol

very good day very nice track, surface not in the best condition though especially on a bike lol

  • 2 weeks later...

I did enjoy the morning session at this track a few years back before my engine expired big time. Should I return?

The first corner around the lake goes on and on and builds some nice load into the suspension. Then there is a quick right left S complex before a stab on the brakes for the tight hairpin at the top end of the circuit. Back on the power, feed through a quick left hander down hill, towards the pit wall, straighten up and past the start/finish line for another go in under a minute per lap.

I might just be tempted back for this one. Is there online booking or is it a phone up and card details over the blower?

I think you can book online using either of the links in the first post

I've been to Mallory a couple off times and it's a simple circuit to learn, only 5 corners/bends, although they can configure it with 2 extra chicanes but is fun circuit.

60sec. lap is easily acheivable in our cars.

The long bend is Gerrards and was the longest bend in the racetrack world, M/Cycle riders make 2 apexes out of it.
