emissions workshop

Featured Replies

Getting "emissions workshop!" this on the screen periodicaly and the engine symbol is lit up. Anybody know what this means and if any action required. Car serviced 1000 miles ago. Thanks

You need to get the car scanned as it could be a sensor or can be caused by all sorts of other things.

What engine is it?

If it's still running ok it will be the coolant temp sensor, do a search as it's in here how 2 do it, cost £15 from GSF or £22 from VAG.

its a 1.9TDI. Seems to have sorted itself out after a long drive. Apparantly exhaust filter can get a buld up of 'soot' after several short journeys. The long run burns it off.

How does that sound????

If its a 1.9 then there is no DPF (diesel particulate filter) so the short journeys thing doesn't apply.

Its most likely a stickly EGR valve, which is easily cleaned, or replaced for about £100 + 1hr labour.

With my Octavia the cause was a faulty fuel temp sensor, the fault came and went for a bit before becoming permanent. As you can see there are a number of causes, and by far the easiest way to find out is get the fault codes read. As mentioned by Tom your car does not have a DPF, only the 2.0TDi has so the exhaust gas thing is not relevant to you at all.

Fault is occuring again intermitantly so I guess I will need to get it checked out as it sounds like a faulty valve/sensor. Will it cause any harm to the engine. Thanks.

Check the egr hose for wear, if this has a hole in it it will send the warning on, thats the thin one just to the drivers side of the oil filer.
