New company car - thoughts so far on Superb

Featured Replies

Did I read somewhere that the 3 series outsells the Ford Mondeo?, so how can they justify such status on such a "common" car.?

I must admit that I did try one before plumping for the Superb but whilst it appealed to me, the spec was pathetic compared with the Superb and I was buying it with my own hard earned cash!!

Enjoy you beemer along with all the thousands and thousand of other satisfied owners.

I was in a similar position a few months back and looked (briefly) at the BMW 3 series. Didnt like th dash layout, the poor space in the back, the back seats didnt fold flat the and the boot opening was lousy.

As for the Passat CC. I tried one of those too. Its as dull on the inside as is stunning on the outside. Its such a huge disappointment, the Passat has to be one of the most boring vehicles on the planet so I guess I should have known.

I am sad:mad:, bmw are for coc*s, the superb would have been a fantastic company car, think for a while ,you would have stood out in the crowd , brave, forthright, honest and a man with passion:rotz:.

Rather than running with the rest of the coc*s ,you missed a chance you'll be sitting in the company car park in the beamer with all the rest of them and you will have your moment "wish I taken the superb" but your time will come

:orb_loser

Apparently coc*s are now driving Audi cars according to Mr Clarkson on Top Gear .

Your moment "wish I taken the superb" I think will come true in the end!

Just back from a three day trip to York and Yorkshire. During the whole 600 plus mile journey we only saw ONE new Superb, and that was on the way back on the Edinburgh by-pass. Saw hundreds of BMW's though!!. I must confess that the latest facelifted version of the 3 series is a cracking looking car, I would rather buy a car that appealed to ME and not to everyone else. I.e. loads of luxury and driver aids rather than poverty spec and a glorious badge. I for one would not look at a motor that did not have xenon lights fitted these days. A costly extra on the beemer, then leather, then parking sensors etc etc. who cares about saving a few quid on the RFL when a BMW cost a mint more to insure (usually).

I await my Superbs delivery more anxiousy every day. (due to be built next week)

aye, the co*ks ar in the audis I think the beamers are their second cars ,honest to god those lads on top gear have it spot on, as soon as they get behind the wheel a switch just goes, they drive right up your chuff I HATE THEM SO MUCH, if you did the same 2 them would give you the finger I think, or worse.

And the thing is the gender is no barrier they are co*ks & cu------ you know were im going I will stop there I think :thumbup:but definate the time will come "wish I had gone for the superb" .

Gentlemen,

I decided it was time for a new car last authumn. Purely by coincidence I saw pictures of the coming Superb II and eventually realised it was a large car, really large by todays standards. My new car should be a brand new car, no "good bargain" would be considered. As I have always admired the Jaguar XJ I was very inclined to buy one. Other runner ups were the new BMW 7series, Range Rover and SAAB 9-5.

Alltough the SAAB is a fantastic drivers car, it was ruled out because it is a bit on the small side compared to my old car, a SAAB 9000, and off course because a certain uncertainty regarding the manufacturers future.

The BMW gave a gloomy impression, and was in actual fact a bit smaller (less roomy) than the Skoda. The dealerships attitude did not help matters a bit. The salesrep. did not know me and clearly decided I could not afford a brand new BMW! Stupid man!!

The Range Rover was my wifes favorit as we already have one and she loves it, but I really did not want another SUV.

The Jag is one of the most beautiful cars ever produced, but.... I took my wife to the official importer i Oslo and she liked the car well. We wanted a car with ivory leather seats and a bright airy atmosphere, and yes the Jag exelled.

The next day we had a look at the Skoda, and it won, if not hands down,- not far from. The ivory leather seats of the Skoda is just as comfy as the seats in the XJ. The apparent luxury feel is no less in the Skoda, and the leg room, well the "lee...eeg" room is from an other planet!! You can have five basketball players sitting comfortably in this car! The luggage compartement in the Skoda is more than twice the size of that in an XJ. The Jags V8 is certainly quite more civilized than the Skodas CR diesel, and the Jags ability to make neighbours envious is a lot greater than what a Skoda can achieve in this departement, but actually this is not (I am sad to say) enough to buy the Jag over the Skoda. I still think the ( old model ) XJ is one of the prettiest cars in the world, but when it costs more than three times the price of an Superb it is not a hard decision to make. Mind you, I can afford a Jag, leave no doubt about that, but I acctually find the more anonymous life in the Skoda really attractive. I have driven my Superb more than 12K miles since january and my love for this car is still increasing.

Baseline is that choosing between a BMW 3 series or even 5 series and a Superb it is only vanity or downright stupidity that can make anyone buy the BMW !

well, after placing the order for the 3 series, the leasing company has now told me that BMW would not honour the discount on the business edition model, as it was a mistake on their system, and should have not been available.

Oh well, looks like i'll be getting the superb after all! Now just have to make up my mind if the rear spoiler and privacy glass is worth having.............

Privacy glass is a waste......i have it and you'd hardly know that it is tinted so save your money. Considering how dark most other manufacturers privacy glass is, I was very disappointed with Skoda.

I know what you mean, the sunset glass is not worth the money, but I can get my proposed dealer to fit proper privacy glass for around £350 ish, which the leasing company are ok with - so far!

In my opinion privacy or as they call it "sunset" glass is purely a cosmetic excercise. Personally I quite like the look of the mild extra tint to the rear half of the car and I have specced it on my order. For the sake if a couple of hundred pounds I think it is neither here nor there. If the whole car is darkly tinted then it looks a bit like a gangsters car!!

Also I would certainly not buy a second hand car that has had an aftermarket "tint job"

Sunset glass i combination with the integrated blinds gives you a fair amount of privacy.

I wouldnt buy a car with privacy glass as its permanent, an aftermarket tint job can be removed just as quickly and you get far more choice on the level of tint I decided against sunset glass for this reason and will be getting my car tinted by the guy i have used in the past who charged £250 inc vat

When I had my Mercedes done and they varied the tint from the back to the doors , the back glass was limo tint ie very dark and the doors considerably lighter meaning when inside there appeared to be little tint at all

Congratulations! I am convinced you will be more happy with a Superb than you would be with that 3 series Bimmer. Tha Superb is a much lager ( and better ) car in every respect.

Out of curiosity, how much money did your company have to part with to get you this car?

Superb... if you'll allow me that one.

I know why you choose the BM, I had a part share in a 17 year old 325 and it was more fun than anything else I've driven. So a newer one with comfort must be tempting.

However I've also found that most modern cars can once you've learnt them, can be driven quickly, maintain speed through corners etc.

Take a 330 on a dark night... He knows the road, how else would he of overtaken me on a 100yard dashing between solids. Oh how I miss that raw power for moves like that.

The funny thing is even in my roomster, he didn't actually pull away from me over the next 10 miles and I still averaged over 45. We both enjoyed the road at or around the NSL, no NSL or sense and I know he'd have gotten a lot further away on the straights.

I'm sure if he wasn't a motorway warrior I would not of seen him for dust. But the fact is most cars on modern tyres and suspension can enjoy the UK's roads well within the NSL. Indeed having more or less to work with (weight or power) brings an added dimension.

I just wish I had more power too; power corrupts. I think the 170 is a nice balance, the size of the superb and I've not driven one in anger should give it an interesting drive, maybe not on bumpy B's though...:)

Welcome to the family come November.

The monthly leasing cost is £525 for 3yrs or 72k miles, whichever comes first

I should do the mileage in 2.5 years;)

I tend to agree with you there! Since having my honda CRV, the fun factor has been missing from my driving, just having a car that can go well round roundabouts will make me smile again! From driving the superb for a couple of days I feel it's the best balance between performance and comfort. Besides, I would probably have been tempted to go faster in the bmw as it just needs to be really driven - so I probably have saved myself a few points!:D

Well, had my new company Superb delivered today at 10.30am.

Steel grey 170 cr Tdi Elegance with ivory interior, park assist, boot spoiler, dealer fit privacy glass, upgraded sound, dimming mirror and heated jets. l'm pleased with the colour as I had not seen it prior to ordering.

Spent 4 hrs putting sealant (smart guard - dealer freebie) and then a coat of FK1000. was intending to add 2 coats but was taking ages so gave up on that one.

Those detailers must have the patience of a saint!

The columbus does not accept my SDHC cards so I'm assuming it has old firmware on.

My wife is even begining to like it now:thumbup:

Glad you are enjoying your new car. I have had mine almost a month now and I am over the moon with it. My favourite pasttime is now taking my critical friends for a drive and waiting for them to be able to be "critical". The only negative comments are about the styling from behind but it is an "acquired" taste in my eyes.

Enjoy.

Just use nomal sd cards up to 2gb and you will be ok.

I think the rear spoiler makes the rear end more acceptable for me

thanks

Just a quick aside.

My Superb is in the garage for a minor repair and I have as a courtesy car a Vauxhall Insignia.

The Insignia is a good car, looks good, drives well and is quite smooth and fast........but it is not a patch on the Superb in any way (except the looks).

Yet again my decision to get a Superb has been justified and there simply is not a car out there for a similar price that comes close IMO.

I had three Saab 9-5s in a row (9 years-worth) before my Superb. For long distance comfort, the Superb wins hands down. The family all reckon the climate control was better in the Saab (I do too), but no-one grumbled at all about the comfort over a 600 mile day. Believe you me, no grumbling from my family says a lot!

I can testify to the competence of the Superb as a long distance cruiser.

Work sent me to Scotland this week, during which time I clocked up 1,658 miles as follows:-

Sun- 471 miles

Mon- 284 miles

Tue- 215 miles

Wed- 697 miles

On the journey up to Inverness the fuel economy resulted in range of 776 miles, my best since driving the car from new in January.

I experienced no back pain/discomfort and used cruise extensively.

On the Tuesday I ventured up to Ullapool, then on to Gairloch via the stunning Coastal Route. The drive back to Inverness was quick and the Superb never once felt out of its depth. The standard suspension setup was comfortable, even on less than perfect Scottish roads.

Even 11 months on, the Superb is still a rare sight on British roads. I estimate having seen no more than twenty since January. Compare this against the ubiquitous BMW 3 Series!

There are very few media players that will take a SDHC card, and they tend to be very expensive; TBH a 2Gb SD card, with the music encoded at either 128Kb (mp3), or 98Kb (mp3pro), is indistinguishable from the original on most home Hifi set-ups, let alone an ICE unit!!

Expect between 10 and 20 hours of music, depending on the codec and bit rate.

I am looking at a Superb myself, for early next year; or a Yeti; I need to check I can fit behind the wheel of the Yeti first though!! (6`6" 300lbs!!).

Which engines are best though, I do mostly very short, hilly journeys, with the occasional loooong motorway run ( the Alps and back).
