2006 Octavia diesel particle filter?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had a 2003 Octavia and it was great. I'm not looking at getting a used 2006 elegance estate in the 2.0 TDI PD (140BHP).

I had a couple of questions:

1) Does anyone know if this engine has a particle filter?

2) If so, has anyone had problems with these filters (I know that Vauxhall Zafiras have major problems with these filters). If I do a mixture of urban and some distance driving would I be okay?

3) If I was to pay £6,995 for this car which has done 80k miles. Would that be a good price? Seems that valuations are all over the place right now and used cars are more expensive and the web sites have yet to catch up.

Thanks for your help.

Matthew

I believe the DPF came in late 2007/8, my June 2006 PD140 does not have one

I would never buy a new diesel with a DPF there have been many reports on here about problems with them.

As its done 80k make sure it has had a cam belt change, as its overdue.

Price? as you say they are all over the place but do a check on Autotrader to look for comparable prices, doe not seem bad if the motor is in VGC with a full service history, new MOT and a Cambelt change.

As above, the PD140s you're looking at won't have a particulate filter to consider. Stick to the Elegance, don't bother with the Ambiente.

I'd be looking to get an estate of that mileage and age for around 6.5k and I'd want the cambelt to have been done ideally.

The only major problems to look out for on that engine are the dual mass flywheel / clutch (look for judder) and the turbo (listen out for a noise akin to a police siren when accelerating in 1st, 2nd and 3rd).

Can someone please confirm this? I posted a similar thread earlier today with conflicting responses.

According to the current brochure (and last year's), the e.g. Elegance and L&K with the PD140 diesel engine don't come equipped with a DPF (however, it specifically states in the engine specs that the 4x4 and Scout with the PD140 do have DPFs).

Thanks for the responses.

Good to know I'm not dealing with a DPF. Is there an official way of confirming this with Skoda? Should I be looking for something on the engine? Is there a code somewhere on the vehicle?

What sort of judder would I feel on the clutch? Would it be something I feel when it is engaging/releasing?

Thanks for feedbacks - very helpful indeed.

Is this 2.0ltr engine worth the extra compared the 1.9?

MS

Yes!

The 2.0 litre is way better than the 1.9 (was it George Stephenson who developed that old bag of nails?)

You could phone Skoda customer services if you really wanted and they'll tell you the same thing. The first cars to get the DPF were the PD170 VRS and PD140 Superb (which incidentally had an awful DPF design), I think both in late 2006?

Thanks, really appreciate all the help.

We've just come back from the USA and we had a Skoda before we left - it was great. Looking forward to finding one again.

This price does look a bit high, I should be paying more like 6.2k-6.5k

On the pre facelift model, the 2.0 PD TDi only had a DPF on the Scout, vRS and 4x4. All other variants fitted with the PD140 are normal exhausts. My 2005 (55) does not have a DPF in the exhaust.

What he said.

My 06 elegance didn't have one.

Agreed ... engine code is BKD without DPF

(sticker in service book & under boot carpet)

Mines 2005 (55) now on 99k .. service items only,

although the turbo has been wailing like a police siren

since I got it 42k (17 months) ago

Skoda Warranty said "it's not a fault it's a characteristic"

Only downside compared to 1.9 is that the MPG is lower,

but that's mainly due to huge tyres with lots of grip.

Mine gets to stretch it's legs in Germany too,

it's seen +38c & -23c without issue

It's been over 1000m up mountains

& has had Vmax checked against the book

Prior to this I put 110k (4 years) on a mkI 1.9tdi (90bhp)

which was nice, however this is nicer.

cheers ... Darren

The 2.0TDI in a mkI Superb is ONLY an 8valve engine (as Wega3K said there's plenty of issues there!!!!)

The 2.0TDI in mkII Octavias & mkII Superbs are 16 valve.

Pretty much every manufacturer has had issues with getting DPFs to work,

the effectiveness of local dealers to deal with the problems is where the frustration starts.

Likewise Dual Mass Flywheels (DMF) are also a mixed blessing, the idea is to make the car smoother / quieter, however, sometimes the chocolate that they're made from has a lower cocoa content (as you can tell ... I'm not that techie).

They're pretty much unavoidable though, the ones fitted to VAG cars are no worse than any other brands, a workmate has just been telling me his woes with a Volvo & another with a Renault.

Hope I've not caused you to despair ....

Hi, I have 255,000kms on my 2006 2.0tdi (BKD) non-DPF Octavia. It had a DMF replaced at 130,000kms under warranty and I just put a second replacement Turbo on it (big thumbs up to Turbo Technics). The car is remapped from new and has the DSG gearbox. If you treat the car right with the proper spec oil when its supposed to get it you will get great service from the 2.0tdi. By the way...........the car still puts a smile on my face every day !!!!!!

But the engine code on an Octavia II 2.0TDI 4x4 and Scout is BMM which is an 8 valve and they both have DPF's (code 7GG)
