car feel strange ?

Featured Replies

my octy 2.0T fsi a 06/56 (17,000 miles ) feels like its bouncing when driving above 50mph and at 80mph + it,s worse and i have to fight with the steering wheel, i have owned 2 other octy's a mk1 and a 07mk2 neither of these cars had this problem.

one other problem it does'nt hit you in the back when you drop it from 5th to 3rd and floor it, my other mk2 used pull really hard.

anyone got any ideas as to theses problem,s

( the car is still under skoda warranty untill sept this year )

That sounds rather serious and probably worth getting it up on stands in the first instance to make sure nothing is loose.

I take it you have visually checked the tyre for damage and pressures along with wheel nuts for tightness?

Split diverter valve?

i have done visual inspection and checked the wheel nuts, nothing found could it be the track control arms ?

i thought i might be the diverter valve, i think this is still covered under skoda warranty.

The problems sound unrelated.

You might want to get your dampers checked and the split diverter valve is a possibility if it's been remapped. Not heard of any going on standard vRS's.

i know the problems are not related,,, the boost problem does point to the diverter valve after what i have researched on the forum ( car has not been remapped )

as for the dampers i would have thought that a 17000 miles they would be ok

i,m going to book the car in at my local skoda dealer next week to see what they come up with

Have you recently put budget tyres on the front?

Hi

I recently had a bouncing problem from the front end of my Octivia diesel at about 60 mph - turned out to have been the rear tyres - they were Bridgestones and although they still had plenty of tread after 36K miles, changing them cured the problem.

Hope that helps

Glen

Check your springs for tansportation packing :)

what and where should i be looking for

There are inserts between the spring coils whilst the car is transported from the factory.

I but budgets on a previous car and the car felt like I was crossing the Bay of Biscay in a force 10 storm. It rolled all over the place.

It turned out that tyres were faulty. They were oval shaped :(

Just a thought!

i have heard of this before, can the tyre fitting company check this ?

thanks for all the helpful replies

Yes (& No)

They may be able to check, but they may be reluctant to,

as the tyre manufacturer may say that the tyre depot has stored them incorrectly.

I've been running Avons for the last few years & covered 200,000 miles without any issues.

I'd certainly ask them to double check the balance & to look for ovality, depends how much you trust the specific fitter / garage.

Good luck.

Its worth checking the balance. I had an Astra that started feeling twitchy ( the rear felt like it was swaying). Got the tyres balanced and it sorted it out.

As it happens mine was an Astra too. As luck had it my spare was unused, so there was no chance that the rim was distorted. They removed the new tyres off the car and fitted them to the spare rim in turn. The wheel was then fitted to a spindle and rotated with a gauge just touching the tread. The wheel was then spun and you could see the tread touch and the leave the gauge with each roatation. " I hope that makes sense!"

Hope this is of help

update:- the cars been to the skoda dealer today, they test drove it and done a full diagnosis check which showed nothing and said the diverter valve was fine ( why have i lost boost pressure  ) they seem to think that the car feeling strange at speed is the front tyres. i,m going to have the front tyres re balanced and the tracking checked on saturday to see if the tyres are the cause of the problem, if this doesnt solve it i,ll buy some new 18" wheels and tyres and try that ( dont tell the wife  )
