New rubber.......cooper tires, these any good?

Featured Replies

Been offered these brand new fitted for £57.12 each

COOPER TYRES / CAR / COOPER ZEON 2XS - 225/45R17 91Y TL :: £70.90 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres :: R17" - 225/45/17, 225/45 R 17 ::

Now i had the Toyo T1R's before and thought they we're very good but they don't have them, are the coopers any good?

These are the old Toyo's

TOYO TYRES / CAR / TOYO T1R PROXES TOYO T1 R - 225/45R17 94Y XL TL :: £66.20 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres :: R17" - 225/45/17, 225/45 R 17 ::

Thanks

IIRC Cooper are part of the Avon group.

I wouldn't buy them but go for something you know as the compound might be totally crap.

Looking around the results are up and down....some say really bad others say really good (what i expected!)

They are more money than the toyo's so they can't be any worse......can they?

I had those cooper zeons on my tdi octavia, they were quite sticky in the dry but I found them useless in the wet oh they only lasted 2k miles too, not what I expected. The ride was also quite soft with them too 225/45/17, my current tyres on 16" wheels give a firmer ride.

If those are your 2 choices I would go for the Toyo. Would you consider another brand?

Would consider something else, I'm limited as i have the MOT due as well. With the coopers it would cost £263.48 for 4 new tires and an MOT.

Falken FK452 @ about £50-60 a corner would be a better bet IMHO.

Not the longest lasting, but cheaper than the coopers and a lot more is known about them.

Don't touch Nankang NS2s - they'r e pretty good in the dry and wear well, but show them a drop of rain and they immediately try to hide in the nearest hedge. I've had wheelspin in third, in a straight line.

1) Cooper own Avon, and Avon are rubbish.

2) Those are the wrong load index for an Octy vRS anyway (91 rather than the correct 94).

what load index do you need for a fabia vrs and do the tyres need to be reinforced/ xl?

2) Those are the wrong load index for an Octy vRS anyway (91 rather than the correct 94).

Is that actually the required index? I never thought to look it up. Using online tyre selectors, searching by model, I've been given everything from 89 (Conti) to 95 (Vredestein).

Kuhmo are now doing the Ecsta KH31 which is an assemetric tyre which is classed in the same group as the KU31 although the x2 KH31's I've just bought were £5 each cheaper than the KU31's and seem much quieter and have a firmer sidewall too.

I'll stick my vote in for the Kumho's as well...had rears on for 2 years and no problems, and the fronts have been replaced once..and I have done 23k :)

In any specfic way Ken?

I've been using Avons for some time now (150k /5 years) without issues on my modern Octies

cheers ... Darren

Well, there's the story of the Mulsanne Turbos, the Avons and the Hungaroring, or my mate who got wall cracking after 2_000 miles (about 6 weeks) running H-rated on an Escort XR3 (carbie)...

An XR3 with carbs, blimey, bang up to date stuff then!

Just to play devil's advocate, were the contemporary Skoda models of that era highly regarded in popular culture? (a purely rhetorical question)

Well, there's the follow-on where their "customer service dept" accused him of driving too fast in a car capable of 105mph on tyres aledgedly designed for a sustained speed of 130.

Well i couldn't get hold of the old Toyo's in time, MOT was due so i ended up with coopers but these ones below at the same £57.12 fitted as before.

COOPER TYRES / CAR / COOPER CS6 ZEON COOPER CS 6 - 225/45R17 94W XL TL :: £72.20 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres :: R17" - 225/45/17, 225/45 R 17 ::

So far so good, they are LOADS quieter than the Toyo's on the motorway and seem to grip very well in the dry, have yet to test them properly but we'll see!

If there are any problems with them he said he'll exchange it with a new one OR if they really give me problems just exchange them with a full set of toyo's so not too bad. :D
