Stealth VRS.

Featured Replies

Would it not be easier to just get a company to apply transparent security film to the windows? That way if someone tried to break into the car then the glass would not fall through.

^^ Roughly how much is it to do this??

Project Stealth begins this weekend...

Job number one... Application of black smooth Hammerite to the brake calipers.

Just had front discs and pads renewed a fortnight ago. seems as good a time as any...

And while its up on the axle standsin my back garden, I hope to replace the foglamps too if the plastering in the hall doesn't get in the way.(see my other recent thread)

I've only had the car for about a month so far and there are some little niggly

jobs that still need doing from tthe previous owners time with the car like replacing the cracked OSF foglamp, figured I'd may as well replace both, then at least they'll match...

I'll try and take some snaps alomg the way..

Project Stealth began today.... I haven't worked on a car in a while to tell the truth, last one I tinkered with was my Mark 3 Dragon Green GTI 8 valve... Ah... I loved that car.... But I digress.... Turns out that every thing I managed to get done today was a proper pain in the butt:eek:

Job Number one. Replace indicator bulbs with Silver type...

Had to file a nipple off of each bulb to make them fit into the lampholders... WTF is that offset bayonet fitting all about:confused: Haven't seen that before. And OS Front lampholder was a PIG to get out.... And I have pretty small hands too!! I'm dead pleased with how they look compared to the orange ones, especially on the front of the car.

Job Number two. Remove VRS badging from rear of car...

:eek::eek: Did the hot water and credit card routine I'd read about to soften it and got the badge off quite easily... Previous owner or little toerag has tried to pry it off before so there were a couple of minor scratches where they had tried to get under it with a screwdriver. Then I had to get the " foam backed gummy adhesive" goo off.... THIS TOOK AGES and much elbow grease. I have a huge blister on my thumb as a reward for all the rubbing. (Oo-er missus.... Fnarr fnarr) After removing the badge I superglued it to the plastic engine cover parallel with the TDI badging already on it, I think it looks quite good there. For now I have kept the Fabia badging to the rear. I will at least wait for this damn blister to heal before I go at it again. I will be ordering a plain grille for the front so that I can put the one with the V logo into storage so that the next owner can refit it if they choose. I am also intending to colour code the chrome area to tone the front of the car down a bit more... (a' la stealth.)

Job Number three. (Unconnected with stealth) Fit storage drawer into dash.

 First up... MASSIVE THANKS to APOGEE who provided me with the drawer, He truly is a King amongst men!!! :D:D

Even this proved to be a bit of a bleeder!! I have a parrot hands free and I really struggled to route the wires with all those extra connection blocks and extra wire back there and the drawer is bigger than the shelf thing I was replacing. It was just a question of perseverance and I got tit all in and functional again after a few attempts. Have replaced the skoda duplo OEM stereo with a Sony Xplod head unit I used to have in my Bora. Thankfully its dual colour display so it looks nice in there all green and matching  The drawer looks much better and my mp3 player easily fits in there too.... Am dead chuffed with it.

Bye for now....

I like this thread. Your ideas are original, and certainly different from the threads I'm used to (coming from a 206gti, where everyone made threads about sticking tat on rather than taking off). I can understand why you are doing it - like a wolf in sheeps clothing. Saying that, I like my front bumper too much to do the same :)

I want it to be stealthy beacause I don't want the local stereo nicking scrotes (of which there are many believe me...) to notice it too easily, I live in a fairly deprived area and it seems that the local scumbags don't like other people to have nice things. And, sorry if this offends you other VRS owners, but even though the car is quite subtle compared to many, the interior screams "BREAK IN TO ME COS I'M NOT A FIESTA"

I agree with what your saying about the interior being a little "stand-out-ish" for want of a better descriptions. Here's an idea for you, get a set of seat covers. It'll stop it looking so flash and preserve your interior at the same time.

This job is easier if you heat the badge up with a hair drier and then peel it off. To remove the residue use sticky stuff remover (Sticky Stuff Remover - Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware) and then polish the area to finish the job off. Nice and easy, and no blisters ;)

Your idea reminds me about a similar thread on Seatcupra.net, a guy on there was going all out to make his Ibiza FR look like a basic 1.2 model even down to the interior trim. I would have provided a link here but I can't find the thread now as I forgot his name/thread title.

So dude, you're trying to make it less likely to get broken into but you've swapped the OEM headunit for a Sony Xplod one?! You'll obviously be removing the facia at night then?

Working for the po, in my experience, the cars that are most likely to be stolen fall into two main categories - the first are pre-96 cars with no immobilisers which are taken, ragged around a bit and then burned out or dumped or larger, high powered cars (and I'm talking BMW's or Mercs) stolen through hook and cane jobs or simple burglaries in the more affluent parts of the area within which I work. You'd be surprised - the scroats who live in your area don't tend to **** on their own doorstep - they take their 'talents' elsewhere.

Cars that are likely to be broken into on the other hand are mainly any cars where something is left on display - although I've never taken a report of a Skoda (of any kind) being broken into, haha! Good luck with the stealth mods, I'll be interested to see the progress. I'd leave the bumpers as they are though personally as they look far better than the non-vRS ones.

I would have to agree with this, most cars that are vandalised stolen etc. around here seem to be early Ford Fiestas/Escorts that are easily broken into. The ICE in these cars seem to be worth more than the car itself.

Classic example of this is my dad's break in. He fitted a sony MP3 player to my mums fabia a while back (think it was sony - anyway....) after countless years of telling me to remove my face unit he went to a carboot in openshaw (anyone who knows manchester knows it a little rough). long story short some one put the window in cause he forgot to remove the headunit face before going to the carboot.

Very expensive lesson.

I have had this head unit in my last 3 cars. And I am proper anal about NOT leaving the facia in there. Mrs Grr usually has it in her handbag if its not in the car. I got burned about 9 years ago when some scumbag crowbarred my SAAB 9000's door open in central London and stole my head unit and the facia from the glovebox... (yes...I know....) I vowed then, never again would I let this happen by leaving my facia in the car.

I put a new HU in my last Fabia as it was only cassette.

Haven't bothered with it in the vRS because it's CD already. If I was to do anything now it'd be an Amp & Speakers hooked up to the Symphony.

Does anyone know of a Symphony ever being taken?

It'd be quite unlikely because of the extra height compared to a DIN unit. Never say never, but it would only be of use to another Fabia owner / user ( ;) ) It's why I ended up with another OEM HU after the original carked it...
