My Insurance company says {Alloy Wheels}

Featured Replies

I can 'upgrade' the alloy wheels on my vehicle under their policy if they are within the 'Manufacturers Specification'.

They seemed suitably 'grey' over what that means - but given that my VRS Estate has 16" Alloys - I assume that means they'll only insure the car with 16" wheels.

OR considering the Saloon version has 17" Alloys - does that mean they are within the Spec too?

As you can imagine - I am far more inclined to go with another Insurance company - especialy as I have given up the idea of remapping, because they won't cover that either Grrr!

It's just a b*llache having to change insurers and would like an easy life.

Thanks for reading, I welcome your responses!

Dood.

Could be wrong but I would imagine they mean that the new alloys meet the cars spec ie the car won't require spacers or the arches rolling etc, may also mean the manufacturing spec, ie TUV etc certified etc

Sadly, it seems the staff were unable to clarify what 'within the manufacturers specification' means.. Which kinda worries me about what might happen in an accident with one of their customers and their T&C's are brought in to question?

So at the moment, best left well alone and see if I can get a decent quote elsewhere!

I'd get a price on OEM alloys, send the specification off to them and ask them if they are specifically covered in writing. Once you have a replay in writing you can base your choice on that.

Its deliberately vague.....it gives them scope to knock back a claim if they think you've gone too far. If your wheel/tyre combination is not factory spec, they will definitely object.

I've noticed that every year my insurance renewal get more vocal about the need to inform of mods. This year engine mods and alloy wheels are top of the list and for the first time you have to include any factory fitted optional extras. I have parking sensors listed on my schedule!!!!

I have parking sensors listed on my schedule!!!!

That's normal, they're an addition to manufacturers specification and thus will cost more to replace in the event of an accident compared to bumpers without parking sensors.

Why is it hard to change insurers? Couple of calls and some money one way or the other and its all over. Chris Knott were cheap for me this time.
