TT wheels Tyre Choice

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Have checked the search, but couldnt find an actual answer I needed, so i'm killing another kitten...

I have a set of 17" Audi TT wheels, dont know what model they are though. They look like S3 wheels, but without that line at the top of each spoke. Wondering what Tyres to go with them. They currently have 225 45 17 on them, fitted them to see what they looked like. They hang right out of the arches. Would 205 40 17 be a good choice? Currently running 205 45 16 on my standard wheels. Just wondering what you guys run on yours.

Thanks in advance.

Jon

205s would probably be a better choice if 225s hang out of the arches (although some people like that of course). If you like the current width of your tyres then just go for the same (205 45 17), presuming the rims are suitable for a 205 that is. 215s could be a good compromise but will be a bit more expensive (Well, here in Germany they're usually a bit more than 225s actually, simply due to the economics of volume - 225s being more common than 215s).

If you go for 40 profile you may ruin the wheel circumference in terms of speedo/tacho etc. Not sure what the standard is for Fabias with 17" rims.

Hi Jon,

205/40/17's are the ones to go for. They're on my TT comps which were on the Roomster for a while, and very shortly going on the fabia

195/40s,a little stretch looks awesome.

Thanks Guys.

Yea Jonny I think 205/40 is the best route, not keen on the stretched tyre look. I think the TT comps looks awesome the Roomster. Why not buy another set for the Fab?? :)

Ideally 205/40/17's or 215/40/17's.

215's for more grip and kerb protection:D 205's actually look a little better tho

They be called 6 spoke Ronals, from a TT, very popular with the the Golf Mk 4 boys. 205 or 215/40 are the ideal tyres on a Fabia. Great for handling but you will notice a harder ride, more tyre noise and a couple of MPG less.

I believe that wider tyres do not offer more grip, surface area has no affect on friction

:D ill get my coat

I believe 205/40/17 were standard on my Ibiza, which is essentially a Fabia. but I fancy some 215/40's when they need changing, mainly for the reasons Gary mentioned

If you go for 40 profile you may ruin the wheel circumference in terms of speedo/tacho etc. Not sure what the standard is for Fabias with 17" rims.

don't forget that changing the width also changes the height
