REVO stage 2 discussion

Spill the beans, what is the Revo Stage 2 like.

You know you want too, there's plenty of people with stage 1 on here that I'm sure could be tempted with a stage 2!

Hey mate, I was going to report back on this when i covered enough miles on it which is round about now.

Ok First off was a big thanks to JKM who did a great job as ever installing the MAP and setting car up.

Originally I was going to go straight for the REVO 2 bypassing the stage 1, but as there is no extra cost in installing stage 1 and then stage 2 later,i.e no labour apart from the initial £50 difference between the 2 Maps, plus the Stage 2 needs a 4 Bar fuel pressure regulator.

I was initially a little nervous of Stage 2 as was aware that in some rare cases it can cause turbo manifiold cracking when used extremely on the full power, as the K03s manifolds are not very special.

This is down to the Stage 2 having a lot more aggressive torque around 20% more power so that is also what made me decide Stage 1 at first.

I already had a postal MAP on my car that was causing MOT failure due to over fuelling the car at midrange power, found by JKM after diagnostic testing. Shame, as apart from the MOT failure the postal remap held good power and torque. This showed, as after I had that MAP replaced by the REVO stage 1 and then went on the SEAT RR day the car had less torque and ovarall BHP than the postal jobbie. Also driving the car felt slower and less urgent or aggresive than before. Positive side was nice smooth power delivery and much improved fuel consumption, around 5 MPG more then the postal map.

However I could not stop my desire to get the cars power how I remembered it to be, and the worry of the cracking manifold I considered as low risk based on how many tuners have seen verses how many Stage 2 maps done.

Cut the waffle I here you say.........

So Stage 2 fitted it is like going from standard VRS power to Stage 1. Night and day.

Much more aggresive low down and mine holds this aggresive power right through to the turbo running out. No hesitation( also never had this with Stage 1). The Car feels hugely quicker and already making me feel I need bigger brakes.Getting from around 50 to over speed limit is very quick. It is a massive difference. Pulling away is awesome, although I am finding holding the steering wheel tighter to stop it torque steering. When the bad weather comes might be interesting. The fact I have a ECS N75 valve and Yellow DV spring may also help to hold good boost with the stage 2 set up.

I also notice that the Exhaust note has slightly changed. It is more deeper, very addictive. Maybe more fuel going in and being burnt when on the power. Also when backing off throttle i get a slight low level popping , rumble which is making me drive everywhere with the windows open. Even the CAI sounds like it is sucking in more air. Strange as the fuel consumption is actually better than stage 1. Go fiqure that one.

To fit the Stage 2 JKM stated that you should have a turbo back performance cat / exhaust, preferably a CAI and a 4 Bar fuel regulator. As I have a Forge FMIC they also could increase / custom the map further. I don't know any RR fiqures yet so can't comment on those until next RR day, but very happy with the result and would defo recomend it.

I apoligise now to your SHMBO if this is going to make you spend more money.

P.S I may add this as a new thread so peeps know it is a discussion on REVO stage 2.

Cheers

Mark.

Sounds excellent! I've changed the thread title :)

Is the Phase 2 a custom or generic map?

It is a Custom Map but can be set Generic.

They certainly customised it for me.:D

I so love driving the car at the moment.

When I was at the SEAT RR day I saw a Seat Ibiza with a KO3s coversion hit 256 BHP with a stage 2 that kind of sold me.

Sounds like your very happy with it, im running stage 1 and im not 100% happy with it really, it pulls well and seems to have plenty of torque but ive had a on going niggle. It don't always seem that smooth on part throttle on wot it is fine though.

May go to stage 2 at a later date, may be i need JKM to set it up though.

I'd be interested to know what boost/power you're running as I'm still a bit concerned about my 21psi boost :D

You are exactly where I was. Stage 1 was good and nice smooth power , but not that exciting. It also depends on if you have fitted bolt on goodies after the map. JKM spent a lot of time on my stage 1 setting it up to match my bolt on goodies. I had de fined airbox and green panel filter at the time with all the other mods listed in my sig.

They set the Stage 1 to level 8 which is very high as the level only goes up to 9. And fueling was set to 5 I think.

Stage 2 is on a whole new level. I think if I pulled away with any hast the wheels would spin up in the dry. I booted it in 2nd gear the other day to clear a idiot changing lines and span up slighlty then. Learning the best way to drive the car again.

Awesome difference.

Rob, I have a boost gauge fitted so will get the PSI later. 21 PSI , jesus that is high...

Hi Mark,

Thanks for spending the time to write that up mate!!!

It certainly sounds awesome, I think it will be done sooner rather than later.

The Blue Flame definately made a difference but it certainly needs a little more. I may also look into smoothing the airbox too.

Thanks again mate, I'm looking forward to seeing what figures you get!

No problem at all mate, that's what we are here for to exchange comments and ideas. I hate spending money on a bit that does not gain anything so the more knowledge the better the choice made.

lets get a rr day sorted as i would like to get mine done now its had the work done :D

i read earlieryou said k03s 256 bhp not a hope in hell buddy turbo wont blow that lol

with all the work ive had done im hoping for around a solid 230 and about 260 torque i can say its fecking quick now thats for sure lol

Well When I was at JKM this is the car that did it.

His defo said K03s. Come to think of it I believe these models have the 2.0 TSI engine in them, but not aware they had KO3s turbos???

yep completley different engine:rolleyes: you will not achieve this on the mk1 vrs 250 can be achieved just but more like 240 max

im hoping for a solid 230+ :D

I had 220bhp on the postal Map with 260 torque and it was quite agressive.

With the Revo stage 1, I got 210bhp with around 255 torque and it felt less aggrresive than the Postal Map.

With the Revo Stage 2, I am also hoping to get the magic 230bhp with anything around 265 Torque would be great. :D

It certainly feels it could be around that.

Next RR here we come.

now running the large bore exhaust mannifold and ported and polished inlet and a few other bits ;) im hoping that the power curve will come in earlier than before and hold better.....( it deffo feel bloody fast )

i need to get a rr to make sure i like the map..if i dont i will change to a motec map:thumbup:

so can someone organise a rr day please :D

plus the postal remap prob did feel quick but i bet it was overfueling and running near the limit of the turbo......like most....

That postal map was defo over fuelling which caused MOT failure, after first replacing the BlueFlame Cat until found out it was the map.

Funny as my next tuning route would be to replace the inlet manifold, and possibly get a better turbo manifold. Be interesting to see you RR results to.

no real point replacing the inlet manni its good for about 350bhp

what ive done to mine was to port match it to the head and polish the runners to allow better flow

the exhaust manni is the ina big bore one and its makes a huge difference as the standard one is so restrictive:thumbup:

im doing my spare one at the moment;)

Where is the best place to get these.

I guess these things on ebay are a no no??

SKODA OCTAVIA 96> 1.8T 20v T3 TURBO EXHAUST MANIFOLD on eBay (end time 09-Sep-09 19:24:54 BST)

:rofl::rofl:

Something like buying Eibach springs for the vrs.

Yep thought so then that is a big Noooooooooo:rofl:

ina is where i got mine from very good piece of kit but make sure you get the top lip machined before you fit or it wont go on lol like mine you need to trim 4mm off it

great price aswell at the moment and it really is noticeable made the turbo spool up so fast i had to get the mapper to tweak it down  lol

ebay ones dont touch them they are crap lol and the ina isnt expensive as you think... also jbs should have there;s out soon but it has been a while and they keep promising and nothing comes of it

Blimey, I didn't realise there was much more I could do before going to a big turbo set up!

I think I'll just stick with the stage 2 re-map and uprated FPR :D Otherwise I'd only balls it all up!

I'm up for a RR day too, with enough notice and so long as it isn't miles away!

  • 3 weeks later...

I just learned that there's a REVO dealer in NZ :D

So all I need is a turbo back exhaust, 4 bar FPR and preferably a FMIC and I could go stage 2? Mmmm.

Interesting!

Oh and a 1000km round trip drive to Tauranga :D

Bowders - did you take note of your boost levels?

Hi Rob yes , running around 18psi. Sometimes hits 20psi but not often

I think Stage 2 needs to be my goal for next year :D

I wonder what it costs in NZ - best ring the place and find out!

mmm has anyone got a link to these Manifolds?

puttin these on and the 3" DP+200cell cat and 2.5" system, wont over speed the turbo will it? or is that fixed by a tweek of the map?
