What tyres ?

Featured Replies

hi guys , just running a quick scout

what tyres are you all using, specially those of you who drive some-what spirited

the pirrelli p zeros i got have been VERY good at keeping the car where ive planed

but at £225 a corner i may have to rethink

a option is a falken fk-452? anyone running these or have ?

there arent many options with a 225/30/20

trouble is ive always lived with " its those 4 bits of rubber keeping all the £ you spend on the road " ish

FK452's on my car and no complaints what so ever. About 18k out of my fronts, looking like about 15k now I've had my remap though :o

Plenty of grip, pretty good in the wet, stiff sidewall that seems to suit the Octy... Only downside- road noise

Only tyre I've ever bought for the car so not too much to compare them to however I didn't notice a difference from the Bridgestone Potenza's that the car came with.

Ive just put the falken fk452 on my car and no complaints what so ever and you can get them at a good price from camskill.com

What Pzeros have you been getting? I am using the Rosso and this tyre is really good. I have used the Falken FK452 and found them to be just OK, the Rosso is much better and worth the extra.

Cannot go wrong with Eagle F1s either, but both of these options are pricey.

Running Hankook V12 Evo's on the front and Kumho KU31 Ecstas on the back at the moment, but they are standard size 205/50/17

I did consider 452s as they were good cheap all-rounders like the Kumhos but I think comparing them to premium tyres like Pirellis, Michelins etc. the premium tyres are in a different ballpark.

Edit - Jesus Lloyd I just looked at the prices and the Falkens to fit your wheels are like double the price of what they are to fit normal 17" ones!!!

One tyre not to get is Accellera Betas. I threw two near new ones away when I got the car. Worst tyre for a vRS!

yeah i dont think i'll be swapping p zeros for nankangs lol

if any it would be the 452s but i dont know

it just the pirelli are a smidge expensive , but they are bloody good, ive gave them a fair bit of legal stick  and even being on 20s they have done me proud

it was just ive been told they are also hard to get in that size :( and cost a kidney

i dont supose anyone knows what a the shelf life of a tyre is? is it was stored in a dry place and wrapped up in a sheet or blanket to keep it cosy :D but for £225 i may keep heating the hot water bottle

i second this Nankangs are ****e i crashed my gti-6 in the wet with these on and i wasnt being a tit either, just in a line of cars and mine spun off.

Kumhos are good value for money but i really like the Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s if you can get them

Had Kumho KU31 on mine in 18" form for about 2 weeks and they are what the hype suggests. Fantastic.

I have not lost grip once yet and i have been going some trust me as been testing out the new weitec's.

What size are you after and i will get my mate to price them up on monday if you like?

Dave.

They are indeed very cool. They also happen to do very well in tyre tests every time, have a great rep with anyone who runs them and are made by a company who have done the tyre testing at GTI International for several years and wowed plenty of enthusiasts.

Also, they're assymetric. So they should be quieter and significantly better grip wise than Falkens.

Coming a highly comendable 2nd place in this years EVO tyre tests scoring an overall 95.3%, the Ultrac Sessanta was the choice of both EVO testers, Jethro Bovingdon and John Barker, on the road.

From EVO's wet handling test

'it was the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta that proved the tester's favourite. "Superb," said Bovingdon. "Heavy steering but backed up by strong turn-in and the ability to give more bite if you need it. Very good traction"'

From EVO's aquaplane testing

'In the straight line test, the majority of the tyres are within 5% of the Dunlop's performance, but on the wetted curve the spread is much higher, though this is largely due to an exceptional performance from the Vredestein. A star performer in the wet handling tests, the 'Giugiaro Design' Ultrac Sessanta leaves the rest in it's wake, the Bridgestone being the best of the rest some 17% down."

Testing was carried out using 225/45/17 on a VW Golf GTi
