What to do?

Featured Replies

As some of you might know, we recently bought a 1.2 HTP Silverline for my wife. After driving it more and more and spending all weekend driving it, I have really fallen for the Furby. So much so that I am considering a vRS for myself.

The only problem is I still love my current car, and would like to do more to it, but I have already spent a lot of money on over the last 5 years and will only spend even more on it getting it exactly how I want. It's even won a show and shine trophy after its last visit to the bodyshop. Saying that, I am fed up with little niggly things with it which could easily be fixed but involve more money and getting to the bottom of whats wrong.

There are so many things going for the Fabia, such as cheaper road tax, newer car, slightly cheaper insurance etc.

So my dilemma is do I keep my Bora or sell it and get a vRS?

Here's a few pics of my Bora to show what I've done to it.

What would you guys do if you were me?

Cheers

Cheers mate  I still like the Gora, but the way the wifes Fabia drives just feels so much nicer and is actually comfier than mine

Don't think it would be a limited edition vRS, as a little out my price range but really fancy a red vRS ;)

Keep the Bora and lower it :)

(Been reading VWVortex all day and am completely fed up with Getta's, JTI's and Jolf's....)

It's already lowered 45mm. If I did keep it I'd plan to get it on air, after the interior was retrimmed :)

Whats wrong with it? Maybe you'd be able to get a PX!

I went from a Bora TDI 130 Sport to a Porsche 968 and Fabia 1.4 16v as my daily driver. I have to say that I wouldn't want to swap a Bora (or even a Gora) for a Fabia if it was my only car. Nothing against Fabias, SWMBO has a 1.4 TDI Estate which is all very nice, but it's no Bora.

Just my two penneth.

Just stupid wee things, like door lock problem and temperamental drivers window.

Tried a part exchange a while back on a BMW 1 Series and was offered stupid low money for it. Even the dealer told me best to sell it private to a "VW enthusiast" where I would probably get between £1500-2000 more.

I find that my Bora is a lot heavier to drive. The steering and gearchange on the Fabia is so much lighter and nicer, and although I have nice supportive Recaros in the Bora, find the Fabia much more comfy. It's also got more space inside that the Bora, which I was surprised with. Still in two minds what to do

Buy an Octavia :) lol

I'd keep the Bora mate.. It sounds like you bought it because you wanted a Bora rather than any old car.. And by the looks of it you've already invested alot of time, thought and Cash into it.

Don't take the Fabia your wife has to represent the vRS either.. I find the ride in my vRS pretty crashy compared to my Fabia Elegance.. I think really you should test drive a vRS, that'll help you decide.

On a slight side note.. The amount of assistance on the Fabias steering is adjustable via VAG COM,... perhaps it is on the Bora too? Maybe you could get it lightened a click to make the drive a little less heavy and a little more relaxed.

Yep, the Octavia is based on a booted Golf, ie the Bora. :)

But it's got a longer wheel base, so more room!

I got rid of a 2.0SE Bora about a month ago, It was lowered with spax coilovers and cornered like a fury... But if a car ever needed a sixth gear and a turbo then that was it....

Sold my Bora to an ex workmate, who in turn is delighted with it but for him it replaced a NASTY 1995 Mondeo, so to him, it feels like a rolls royce...

I bought a VRS, in similar circumstances to yourself as Mrs Grr bought an SDI Fabia which I really enjoyed driving so I decided to do what you suggested and get a VRS of my own... oh and I make you right... The Furby is bigger inside than the bora...

I haven't regretted my decision yet.

PUKKA Bora though BIG A.

Forgot to compliment BIG A on his Bora

Wouldn't say the Furby is bigger than a Bora inside?

I am sure that I sit closer to the pedals in the Fabia than I did in the Bora or in my current MkI Octy. Granted, with the drivers seat in my driving position, right back and as low as it goes, rear knee room isn't much different.
