vrs stuck in 3rd gear!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've searched the forums but couldn't find an answer so I've posted on here.

Was driving home this afternoon, and after 20 mins of uneventful driving, tried to change from 3rd to 4th and found I couldn't! I tried selecting neutral but the car stayed in 3rd. Luckily I made it home without having to stop, and the car's now sat outside, still in 3rd.

Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Thanks,

Geese

If your lucky one of the selector cables has broken or come off. Easy to spot if you inspect the selector linkage on top of the gearbox.

If your unlucky, there is a cross pin inside the gearbox that can break. Requires full strip down and rebuild.

Thanks for your reply.

Do you know where I might find an image of a healthy selector linkage to compare with my own?

Thanks again

The couple of clips / springy type areas the big black curled up pipe is pointing to, are the gearbox cable clips. :)

Well its the gearbox :(

Anyone know where to find a decent second hand one?

Breakers yards - looking at between £250 + £300 for a second hand 6 speed box. :)

Worth trying the "Offer" button then.
