Anyone using a chargecooler?

Featured Replies

Anybody on here using a Chargecooler on there VRS?

I'm interested to hear about your setup.

Cheers

Wonder why you would use one when there is very minimal engine bay space but alot behind the front bumper.

I noticed at the last rallycross event at Blyton that Michal Boak had a small water-air chargecooler on both his Golf and TT. I did not ask him if it was better than air-air ones, it's probably less prone to damage especially with racing. As mentioned by Lummox, I don't think there is enough room for one and if you wanted something better than OEM, buy a Frount mounted one.

water-to-air intercoolers are actually very efficient but i cant think of any reason you'd want one on a road car

There are pro's and con's of both setups. And I've used both setup's on petrol engine's with good results. The choice normally came down to the layout room and fitment.

The heat transfer between aluminum and water is much much greater then aluminum and air.

The chargecooler should have better throttle reponse, lower boost pressure losses, and less compressor surge

An intercooler, can be a simpler setup and more reliable. Could go on.

Basically I looking into it for a polo 9N TDI, which I believe has a little less room than the fabia behind the bumper. Which is Why I was interested to see if anyone is using a chargecooler.

The charge cooler could be mounted in the same loaction as the stock intercooler, And then a thin cooling rad or additional aircon rad could be mounted behind the bumper.

So if anyone is using a chrgecooler or has on there VRS, I'd be interested to hear about it.

Cheers
