Fabia VRS vs Seat Ibiza FR 5 Door

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Just wondering which is the best out of the two. Which is fastest standard and remapped. I know the Fab weighs more than the ibiza does this matter? I saw stats on a certain chip tuners website claiming the Fab could reach 60 faster than the ibiza! is this correct. Which is better air con or climate control? I've heard the climate control isn't that good in the ibiza. I know i should "test drive them both" though i've only test drove the Fab and it was rather good. I know this thread has been done before but who cares! :D

Mechanically they are very, very similar but the Ibiza looks a bit awkward and dated compared to the Fabia in my opinion and SEAT have no heritage where as Skoda have tons of history and soul ( 3rd oldest car maker in the World I belive after Daimler-Benz and Peugeot)

JON

I would have considered the FR 5 door when I bough the vRS, but they seem thin on the ground.

comes down to prices really. and i wouldnt bother with ether the vrs of the fr, if you want a diffrence the cupra is the one to have

Erm, the Fabia is best.

Mechanically very similar, 0-60 may be down to different gear ratios.

Tuning is just about identical.

Interior is better on the Fabia IMHO but not quite as interesting to look at.

Just to settle this argument I think the new seat would beat the fabia vrs, It is being released in September for £16,000 it is a 1.4 twin turbo and supercharger 180bhp as standard and has paddle shift. Very fast car.

Mine is really fast as the minute been superchipped not remapped.

How can u even compare a 7 year old fabia to a new ibiza?! lol, and for the record imho the new ibiza looks rank

Come again?

I agree with you to an extent but the cupra tdi would cost too much for me. It would be nice to own one as there are a load of Fab VRS's about (would be nice to be in an exclusive club ;-)) You would find it hard to find another cupra tdi! which in a way would be nice. The cupra tdi isn't exactly common! like a 182 or an ST. I know a 182 would be faster round a track and round corners but who goes around a track all the time? And its not very wise going round corners fast! :D though thats where the funs to be had! It would be more fun over taking people with a motorway monster!

Plus the better brakes on a cupra would give more reasurance :-p and the out of the box performance would be nice.

Come again?

superchipped......extra large oven ones

what reply do you expect on skoda forum! lol. Here is a reply from a Seat boy!

If you want a 5DR get the SKODA! :D

One reason for that reply, the FR 5DR is very hard to find, most are 3DR's thats the reason.

You will find a nice, low milage 5dr vRS before you find the FR.

As for "interior is nicer" crap, thats all down to personal taste, I dont even have a dash anymore but IMHO anyone who says the square plastic in the fabia is nicer has issues :)

If you prefer the interior of the fabia, great! Go for that one, but if you prefer the FR interior, go for that one!

Im afriad im going to say it TEST DRIVE BOTH!

Same underneath, as others have said. Drive and sit in one and see which you prefere.

Although the Ibiza is quite a bit lighter even as a 5door.

Hmmmm.

So you have a car that hasn't been released, and also running a "superchip". Isn't the DSG on the limit on a standard car?

Go to the cuprasport forum and see a thread I posted there asking the same question

Most people there posted more positives about the Fabia, even though they chose SEAT.

Whilst the engine is the same, the suspension etc is quite different with the FR handling better but being a lot harder. The Fabia is a bigger car than the Ibiza, the Fabia has a better quality interior although less stylish than the FR. The seats are sportier and better imho in the Fabia, with the FR seats being a bit ordinary, the colours are however a bit more family friendly in the FR.

They drive really quite differently too. You really need to test drive both to see what you like best. Having spent a LOT of time driving both (although the FR was 3 door), I'd take the Fabia every time.

Ive read your thread on the cupra forum it was very good! Which did you choose in the end?

It seems to be that the fabia has a better interior though i would

either buy the special or visit seat surgeon. The fr probably handles

better due to the sports suspension though the ride must be very hard. Looks wise i think there equal as the fab looks mean/gangsterish in black but the ibiza looks sporty. Though im really tempted by the cupra tdi as its better than both but it comes

at a cost. Though there hard to find and the insurance is quite expensive lol.

I think the fabia is the all rounder out of the 3. Though it weighs more it

does come with more things standard than the ibizas.

i hate the old "test drive both" saying lol ive only drove a vrs and i sat in an fr the fr felt a slight bit better.

To be honest you may aswell get the fabia, wack 312mm brake upgrades, front mounted intercooler, remapped as and it will cost much less than buying a Cupra. Yea the turbo is better, but pfffffft. The insurance is rediculous on a CupraD. Its about the same as an Impreza.

my modded Cupra TDI costs less to insure than my 1.8 mk1 Focus with springs and an exhaust did :)

I got the urge to change my vrs a couple of weeks ago and was thinking about buying a cupra,,I posted the thread on here. After a test drive in the Cupra I made my mind up to keep my vrs,, the cupra is faster but not so much that made me want it, and mine is a very standard vrs.

The vrs really is the best value for money warm hatch out there,,, there really is no competition.

Only letdown is the seats !!!!!! Now getting seat surgeon retrim done in the next couple of weeks.

How does that work out cheaper??? Might be an age thing. Seat Cupra TDI is insurance group 16 (please correct if i'm wrong) how can a 1.8 focus be anywhere near that, even with mods.

The main problem with the Cupra TDI is the cost compared to an FR or a vRS. Nice car though.

You'll have to test drive them both to find the one you like, Basically the Ibiza FR feels tighter and more sporty and the VRS more refined, both perform the same, you'll be hard pressed to say one is faster than the other. As said before there is more VRS's for sale than FR's. . Either one will be better than a Fiesta though.

superchipped......extra large oven ones

My Super-Duper-chip is faster than a regular superchip.

Tesco's Finest are the best.
