Mooing rear brakes

Featured Replies

This has been well covered I know and many Octavia owners have had the issue of noisy rear brakes when reversing and not even when braking. This especially effects the vRS as it is fitted with the ventillated 256mm brakes. As I fitted the Octavia vRS rear brakes to my Fabia Combi it also started bothering me, bah,

There are a modified set of pads, fitted them. Still sounded like a heard of wilderbeast when reversing, most annoying.

So i bit the bullet and ordered up the Volkswagen kit that is for this problem. The issue arises from a resonance built up in the caliper due to the way its mounted on the rear beam.

The kit retails just over £100 which IMHO is daylight robbery but can't live with the damn noise so hey ho, time to bite the pillow.

Very simple to fit, only takes a few mins

The standard arangement

Remove the cable bracket

Replace with the new bracket fitted with the damper

All done

Finally silence from the rear brakes, bliss.

And also painted the front calipers to match the rears :)

I saw the first picture and I thought there's one for each ear.

Why do they have an expiry date?

Very useful thread by the way, now you just need to find a cheaper version, someone should be able to make one.

Most VAG parts carry an expiriy date, no idea why in all cases.

maybe it's when the part will break and so the mechanic can make sure that it won't be until after the warranty runs out. :P

lol, pretty sure its more to do with an audit process.

£100! might like you have to bite the bullet...driving me nuts!!!!!!

These are standard fit to audi tt if im correct why the hell did'nt they fit them to the octi vrs?...... to save money no doubt!

Can you only get these from the stealers? Cheaper any where else?

So, does the rubber circle put pressure between 2 areas where the resonance normally builds? I can't help but think there's probably a pikey way to do this..... :D

Not a case of pressure, it just dampens vibration.

Not standard fit to anything, the TT doesnt suffer as it doesnt have a rear beam in most guises.

£100 their having a laugh, daylight rubbery

Got me wondering if a cupra console bush could be modded to fit

Its still sore now, but at least the cows have gone,

If that is just damping then surely some stick on alloy wheel weights or similar would have done the job by changing the resonant frequency?

Anyone tried that?

just got a set of these for £6 brand new :p

Yeah seen them listed as a Lupo kit on ebay now for that price, bargain!

its a tuned mass damper - needs to be correct weight, stiffness and damping coefficient © to combat the resonant frequency.

not much too them, but need to be designed for the specific application.

just to say the "lupo/fabia/ibiza" part was fitted today and is identical to the golf part - fits perfectly!

so if anyone requires the fix for this they can use either of the following brake balance weight kit part numbers

6X0 698 998 or 1J0 698 998

could someone please add this to the part numbers sticky?
