'Push' e-mails on Nokia N97

Featured Replies

Hi! It's me again. :rotz:

Bought a N97 a month ago and still haven't devoted time to make the full use of it. I am trying to make my gmail account work with a 'push' function. Is it possible at all? I enabled the 'automatic retrieval', but it still does not really work. I have the 12.2.024 software currently on it.

Dont you have an existing gmail option under messaging?

Or there's a Gmail app for S60.

I have them both, but I was trying to make emails appear immediately like texts. Like on the Blackberry, which has a 'push' function.

I managed to do it by leaving the messaging menu open and connected to either a wifi network or the gprs connection (careful with your data transfer costs). Emails are delivered instantly on my phone. :D

That must have an affect on battery life though?

Keeping GPRS alive has no effect on battery life. On my N95 and also on my HTC touch diamond 2, battery life is the same gprs connected or not. This is because GPRS/HSPDA/3G is carried on the mobile network, since your phone is already connected and constantly connected to that, there is no additional overhead for GPRS/HSDPA.
