Didnt the newer classics come with alloys? Most superbs ive seen have the solids or rs4 alloys. I prefer the solids and its been annoying ive not been able to pick any up:mad:

I have a set in the garage doing nothing...............:o

Seriously though, keeping them for the winter, surely there must be some on Ebay?

Keep checking eBay regularly but 'nowt right now

Baker, quick question if you don't mind - my Superb has standard 16" Skoda 8 spoke alloys, if i were to grab some 19" RS4 or 8's and lobbed 235/35/19 rubber on, what would the affect be on gearing and speedo accuracy?

Have a play around on here

Basically though assuming your std 205/65/16 read an acurate 70 MPH (which they won't):

235/35/19 = 71.69 mph

225/35/19 = 70.91 mph

215/35/19 = 70.13 mph

205/35/19 = 69.36 mph

..........etc.

Obviously if the cars true speed (when reading 70mph on the speedo) is higher than the indicated speed then the car will be slightly slower on acceleration, if it is less (as in the 205/35/19's case) then it will have slightly quicker acceleration, but in the above instances you won't feel the difference.

But in reality you will, as with the larger the wheel diameter the more un-sprung weight you have which is not good (if you need to know why)

Nice one Gizmo - that's precisely what I was after - many thanks:thumbup:

Sorry mate, just been travelling to the USA and just got here, Gizmo has answered well but in my opinion it makes next to no difference that you will really notice.............

No worries Baker, hope your trip was successful / fun!

On a budget and torn between initially investing in wheels and rubber, coilovers, or a remap......:P

Looking into it I'm not fully understanding your answer Gizmo. Surely it's the change in tyre profile and the wheel diameter that would affect the accuracy of the speedo and gearing? (anything that affects the tyres' circumference) According to that site it looks like the tyre width comes into play which goes against my very basic understanding of physics! Can anyone explain in layman's terms?!

Sam tyre sizes are written down as 205/55/16, this breaks down into:

205mm width of the tyre

sidewall height is 55% of the (205mm) width

16" wheel diameter

So if you have 55% of say a 235(mm) tyre, this will be more than 55% of 205mm.

I hope this clears it up a bit.

Ahhhhhhh thank you Gizmo:thumbup:

For as long as I can remember I thought that the sidewall height was an actual measurement - a percentage of the width makes perfect sense

All clear now!
