1.9TDi + Remap = vRS?

Featured Replies

Does a 1.9TDi Fabia with a map really perform (power wise) like a vRS?

I was just wondering really, because not all the components are identical, are they? Does it have a smaller turbo? Different Injectors?

So with a map would/could it have the same lump of power? Or is it more that you can map it up to 130, rather than actually make it GO like a vRS?

Any one got 2p?

don't think lukes re mapped tdi keeps with his dads vrs tbh,but the gap is a bit closer

IIRC, AwesomeSarah's remapped PD100 Comfy has about 140bhp now, which is somewhere between what the ASZ and BLT engines produce as standard. I think they do indeed have smaller injectors, and I'm pretty sure the turbo is fixed-vane as standard - I don't know if Sarah's had either of these changed to get the power she's got, though...

was jus lookin on shark performance website, "stage one remap" gives 140bhp. So id think it *should* drive like a vRS, power might even be a tad smoother

The gearing will also be different though surely as the vRS is a six speed box.

It should technically keep up though if given 140 horses.

Having had both, they have a very different power delivery. To drive they do feel very different. Not sure which would be quicker to be honest

I'm sure this question about differences between the 100hp TDI and the vRS have been answered before.

I think the best person to answer this may be Jason aka Devonutopia. His high powered Mongrel was once a 1.9 TDI.

Has anyone had a standard TDI 100 on a rolling road?

my mate has a 1.9 tdi leon remapped to 140bhp and the vrs has an upper edge, not sure if its gearing and i dont think the leon is quite as heavy

I don't think that it is as simple as that. Too many differences as mentioned before e.g. turbo size, gear ratio, injector size....etc.

It is probably very possible to get similar if not identical bhp in remapped 1.9TDi as in the Vrs, but the way these two different cars lay this power down on the road will differ completely (due to the above mentioned factors). So in answer to your question, no I don't think you can make it GO like a Vrs but yes you can have the same engine power. Does that make sense (as i'm confusing myself as i'm typing this)?

Owning a Fabia vRS, I would say that the 1.9TDi needs a 6speed gearbox. I think that a 5speed would limit the cars preformance with the lack of appropriate gear ratios. (i.e. would need more power to have the same preformance)

Hmmmmm.. so could ya bolt a vRS box onto a 1.9 TDi lump?

I have no intention of doing such a thing... just day dreaming out loud really ;)

But you have a vRS already !?

Hence I'm only day dreaming ;)

Pointless imo, the vRS is much better looking and has a better overall package.

I dream about Lambos and women, not skodas.

Devonutopia manages OK with 5 gears (I think) and 260 BHP. There are a lot of cars with similar or more power and only 5 gears. Hay, modified old minis only had 4.

I don't think there's much in it mph/rpm-wise between top in a 5-speed TDI and a post-04 vRS. There's obviously the extra cog to keep the engine on song more of the time, but it's not like the early vRSes where you were off-boost at motorway speeds in top!

My mate has a 1.9 tdi seat ibiza mapped to around 135bhp. Off the lights it was neck and neck but once i hit the rev limit on 2nd and into 3rd i was away

once i hit 70mph i was about 1 1/2 car lengths infront.

Devonutopias 260bhp+ mongrel has a 6speed box. Its got the whole drivetrain from a vRS. :)

Rev limit on a TDi ?

Rev limit on a TDi ?

about 4000rpm - 4500rpm lol

Thing is, the rev limit on a diesel is solely down to the ECU AFAIK, so a remap would easily be able to tweak that...

You don't really want to red-line a diesel anyway, because although high revs give you the most horsepower (mathematically), the torque curve peaks at around 2200 rpm and drops off quite sharply after about 3600 - and the torque is what gives you the acceleration...
