Petition to make councils invest taxpayers money into repairing the roads.

Featured Replies

As above.

I have started a petition to make local councils invest the money we are paying them (i.e. Road fund license) to repair the roads, into actually repairing the roads.

Some of the councils where I live seem to think that a bit of tar and a scattering of stone chips counts as a resurface.

You can sign the petition here:

Petition to: Make local Councils invest OUR money into properly repairing roads, rather than wasting it on pointless, cheap resurfaces. | Number10.gov.uk

If it reaches 100 signatures, we get a response

You don't pay any money to the council specifically for roads - your car tax goes direct to central government coffers.

ROFL.

Wish you luck with that.

As Dr Z says, and money raised from motoring taxation is not even "ring-fenced" for transport use, never mind road repairs.

Funnily enough our local Conversative Councillor is very keen to get things sorted, including actively identifying residential roads in need of repair. We've had ours done without asking and the repair seems to be good so far.

All good, but the cynic in me wonders if there's an election looming
