Turbo Unit for Classic Tdi

Featured Replies

I have a 53 reg 1.9Tdi on 156k miles.

Driving down the M1 on Sunday it lost all energy on acceleration.

Just had the diagnostic back from the dealer and as I feared its the Turbo (along with the ERG leaking oil)

Starting to get the colour back in my face after the £1.9k quote to replace and repair.

Any hints or tips on lowering this cost would be helpful otherwise Christmas is cancelled.

you'll get it sorted a lot cheaper than that from a independent garage, the stealer will just replace the turbo even if it can be repaired.

You need to find out what the fault codes that were registered. Is the problem intermittant, i.e. goes away by cycling the ignition off and on?

At £1900 it looks like the stealer is planning to have a great Christmas.

What engine does your car have?

Did you get smoke coming from exhaust?

Any noise?

Do you know what the fault codes are?

My guess is that the turbo needs cleaning, but it is just a guess based on the information in your post. Many independents will do this for £200 (ish)

I appreciate the responses guys.

Feel a little naked on technical details as I was a company car driver for the last 20 years 'till I bought the Superb 2 years ago.

The dealer hasn't given me any of the fault codes from the diagnostic - do they normally?

Its not intermittent. It kicked in Sunday and has not gone away since.

Its a 1.9, smoke occurs on ignition and when accelerating in a high rev situation like entering an A road from a side road through the gears. No noise, but noticable vibration since Sunday

I have had it serviced through dealers since I got it through habit. Is there any links on here to decent independents by geography?

many thanks

what colour is the smoke?

See if there is anyone near you with vagcom who could check the codes for you - look in the vagcom forum for a list of people. Or get yourself down to an independent garage and get them to check. Where are you in the country?
