Fabia vRS service help, hints and tips needed

Featured Replies

I'm going to be service my car very soon, and would like to ask for some help/advice/hints/tips.

I've not got a haynes manual to refer to, but I'll make the following educated guesses.

Besides the air filter, have I got the following right?

1 = air filter

2 = fuel filter

3 = oil filter

(apologies for "using" someone else's engine picture :thumbup:)

Any tips on what to do with regards to removing, and fitting the fuel filter?

I'm aware that once the fuel filter has been re-fitted, I can either fill it up with some diesel prior to re-fitting to help the first engine start, or just turn the ignition on a few times to get the fuel pump to fill it up....

Would that be right?

Thanks for your help.

Fuel filter, full the hoses off, get new filter, fill filter with diesel, insert filter, pipes back on :)

Right on 1 and 2; 3 is just in front of where it says 'Skoda Motorsport', with a little oil can on it. What you've marked is the dipstick - I suppose you could put the oil in there, but you'd be at it all day... :thumbup:

The fuel filter is just clipped in, but I've not heard anything about replacing it without priming it with fuel (you could use what's in the old filter I suppose, as long as you poured it from outlet on the old on to inlet on the new one)

Hello there mate!

Just done the 5th year service on my Fabia! My first ever service on a car! Oil change, fuel filter!

Shat myself up couldn't get it to start! So yeah fill the fuel filter with diesel or prime it about 20 times first!

Tips:

1) Use the correct spec oil - you'll need a 4.5l bottle and you'll use pretty much all of it!

2) You need a 32mm BI-HEX socket for the oil filter cap! Dont use the other type as it will rip it to shreds as its plastic!

3) Get it up on axle stands to access the sump plug - youll need a T20 to get the undertray off and a 19mm socket for the sump plug

4) BUY A NEW SUMP PLUG AND WASHER AND DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN IT, think I tightened mine to 25nm - a torque wrench would be useful.

5) Fill fuel filter with diesel or prime it about 20 times before attempting to start!

Hope that helps!

:D

@ap0gee re:dipstick - I was trying to highlight the black canister behind it... I thought the bit infront of the sticker was the top of the engine where the oil goes in?

I guess it's time to get a torque wrench, been getting by without one for years.

Things were easier in my old mk2 ibiza gti - but then again, I had the haynes for that

Thanks for the very quick replies !!!

Joel how come you ditched the catch can - are you just venting to atmos now or ditched the CCV mod altogether? I have a similar setup so just wondering if you had any problems.

Its vented to atmos now. The inlet/ outlet on those universal cans are just too small for my liking
