speccing new superb

Featured Replies

Well I finally sold my old shape superb taxi so SWMBO has given permission for the new one the be ordered.

Going to be a 170cr, probably in elegance spec like my last one.

Any one got any opinions on any options I should or shouldn't have?

Heated windscreen is a worthy option.I have ordered the extra speaker sound system although other members on the forum do not rate it too highly. Park assist and privacy glass have also gone on my order ,as have the heated washer jets and self dipping mirror. The only options I decided to avoid are the sunroof and heated rear seats. The car has just about everything else as standard!!

Its so easy to get carried away!!

Must haves (imo) mudflaps, mats

Nice to have

The premuim sound i think it well worthwhile but can sound a bit poor for the first few weeks as the speaker bed in well worthwhile though

CD changer , many scoffed due to the large capacity of the hard drive but thats fiddly to use when driving and a hassle to update everytime you buy a cd i wouldnt be without mine plus the quality is better

Park Assist , for me pretty useless only good to show off to your mates but gets you front parking sensors so good for that

Dimming mirror i have it but havent really felt the need for it yet

Heater washers again i have it but its been too warm to need yet

Heated seats , i pandered to my nipper who enjoyed them in the demo car we borrowed but something else for passengers to play around with so not always a good thing

Park Assist...not for assisting with Parking but for assisting with showing off!

This is such a personal and subjective subject, you may well get as many different views as replies.

I've got Park Assist because I wanted front sensors and PA was only a few more quid anyway. I thought that it would be a "fun" item, but I must say that it will get the car into tighter spaces than I'd be comfortable trying and I'm a better-than-average driver.

I had the solar panel sun roof as a bonus (together with Hill Hold) because the dealer ordered them by mistake. I could do without both, but the Hill Hold is good if you're feeling lazy and the solar roof runs fans independently of the battery to keep the interior cooler when parked in the sun.

I've found the upgraded sound system to be a worthwhile addition and I'm glad I ordered it. I don't miss the passenger seat box you apparently sacrifice in the fitting of it.

I didn't order the heated rear seats, because we rarely carry passengers over a medium to long distance. If we did, I would have ordered them, but rear passengers are always so impressed with the amount of room, I doubt that they'd notice anyway!

I ordered the dimming interior mirror because I've had them on previous cars. I find it amazing that it's not a standard inclusion on a specification of the level of Elegance trim anyway.

Heated nozzles were a "must have" for me, as it's the conditions in which you need the washers the most that you wouldn't otherwise be able to use them.

I ordered both mudflaps and mats because I'd had them on my previous car (Octy Elegance) where they made a real difference. I specified Ivory carpets and black fitted mats because I tried Ivory mats previously and had to change them because they showed the dirt so quickly. I'm not sure that the Superb II mudflaps are as effective as those I had on my Octy, but they seem to "finish off the look" anyway, so no regrets there.

Heated screen wasn't an option when I ordered, but I'd avoid it, due entirely to experience of previous heated screens, which can be a real headache-inducer (especially when wearing sunglasses) for me.

Having bought the "demo" car of the dealer it had all the extras available (except for bluetooth connection & side sunfolds, which would have come very handy as far as I live in Spain and I got a lot of sun).

It is a 1.8 TSI Elegance Rosso Brunello Emory Ivory.

- Alcantara is much more confortable than leather (fresher in summer, warmer in winter)

- 18" wheels are very cool but I feel the car a little too close to the road for my taste. 17" would be better.

- The feet rests become a nuisance that end in the trunk.

You can ask me about any extra because probably I've got it.

You can see the actual car in Prueba: Skoda Superb 1.8 TSI Elegance.

Let's see... All of the options and whether or not I find them worthwhile in hindsight:

First, the actual options (not included in "my" (Belgian) Elegance spec, nor in the "Company" pack (Belgian option for lease drivers)):

- DSG: best. option. ever. pure bliss.

- sports suspension (lowered and a bit stiffer): great option, makes the car more dynamic (which I like)

- sound system: mixed feelings about this one... as I enjoy music with (lots of) bass, this probably wasn't all that worthwhile (had to add a subwoofer myself to get semi-good results). yet it was dirt cheap, so I don't really regret it as it's great for watching DVD's and such

- flappy (DSG) paddles behind the steering wheel: a true waste of money, almost never use them

- bluetooth car kit: great option if your phone is compatible. mine is, so I'd highly recommend it

- hill hold: neutral on this one. to be honest: i added this just because my lease budget could take it... wouldn't have taken it otherwise. perhaps if you live in a place with really steep hills? ;)

Then there's the "Company" pack:

- Columbus: great piece of kit, yet way overpriced. if it were my own money, I would have opted for an aftermarket unit

- auto-dimming mirrors: not a must-have. I have driven other cars for years without these and it hasn't really bothered me too much

- heated rear seats: well... the rear seats are heated now... umm... yeah, that's about it. couldn't care less, seeing I'm the one driving, but OK... :D

- parking assist: a cool feature to show off to your mates! and all the silliness aside: it really works, so I find myself using it quite often, to be honest!

Things I would have taken should my budget have allowed it:

- bigger engine... the 140 PD is fine, but the 170 CR is indeed better

- solar roof... I simply HATE getting into my car after it has been in the sun the whole day

That about covers it, I guess?

How much personal use are you going to make of the car as I guess its primary use is going to be as a Taxi if my assumption is correct

If that's is very little, then why do you need to add more to it other than maybe going for the DSG?

If you want front sensors, then you may as well go for park assist as the cost differential isn't great.

Upgraded speakers....Why?

Heated rear seats..Executive only Taxi then yes, otherwise who will you please by having them?

Dimming mirror...Probably

Other than that what do you really think you may need

Well the car is ordered. Have been pretty restrained in the end. Have decided that the elegance has most of the toys i want as standard. So that is exactly what i've got.

Elegance 170cr in anthracite grey.

An elegance may seem over the top for a taxi, but in reality, i only do a very small amount of work around town. Most of my work is execs to airports. Other local taxis include a few E classes and even a BMW 7 series (which belongs to my old boss, he never had anything that good when I drove for him!) so there is plenty of competition.

Delivery expected within next couple of weeks and I can't wait!

Park assist is very good if you need to do on street parking (I use it 3-4 times a month) and was the only extra ordered (except matalic paint),I do about 1500 miles a month and would consider 170 CR and dimming mirrors next time.

I went for the entry level superb and no gadgets its brilliant non of this hassle with the electronics its fantastic why spend more money on the taxi your customers wont appreciate it save your hard earned dosh go for the s:thumbup:
