Favorit 1.3 M reg pickup

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, another newbie here, just bought a Favorit 1.3 petrol pickup for 200.00 for my dad who's a builder. You can imagine for that money the pickup, is only mot'd til november. Engine seems fine, but the gear selector has a fair bit of play in it, although at 100.000 odd miles on the clock, the gears go in OK. Do you guys know what I might need to sort the play out, and where to get it from as cheap as possible? She needs a bit of welding inside the buck (nothinf too major) as bit near the off side suspension turret, and along the floor near to the tail gate, and the back box is a tad rusty, but still does its job. Both rear arches are a little rusty, with some jagged edges on the lips (can I get cheap replacement arches from somewhere, without having to buy the whole panel?

Any help would be really much appreciated guys, as my dads a good old boy, and he hasnt got much money.

Regan :-)

Sloppy gearbox issues on Felicias are common, and nearly always down to the linkage. There are two places it can go, depending on the type of linkage. One is at the point where it joins to the gearbox selector shaft, right at the front by the gearbox - it's held by a roll pin, and this can wear the linkage away, leading to a lot of play (usually side-to-side). I've repaired these by removing the linkage and welding a bit more metal in (carefully so as to leave the inside diameter of the linkage correct), and then re-drilling the hole for the roll pin.

The other place they can go is the joint. If that's the case then replacement of the linkage with another is the easiest way to do it, but it is possible to do it by replacing the joint - you could weld any 'universal joint' in there with a bit of fabrication. I think most just get replaced though!

Either way, it's easy to do - dead easy to get off (three bolts and a roll pin), and easy to diagnose - get someone to sit in the car and wiggle the lever side-to-side and you'll be able to feel it easily without even jacking the car up if you're feeling lazy.

Thanks mate, will take a look see in a day or so. Any ideas where I can get replacement rear wheel arches, without having to buy the whole panels?

Not sure - maybe Hadrian list something that is either right or can be made to suit if you replace both?

Thanks pal,

I also need a new head too for it (carb version), as the plonker who i bought it from, decided to cross thread two of the spark plugs, so when it came to change the plugs, two of the new ones didnt tighten up properly, and one shot out LOL

Any help to source a head would be much appreciated?

:-)

eBay! There are plenty about. I've actually given them away in the past.... but I've not got any spares now.
