Symphony-CD does not search the FM band

Featured Replies

Hi fellows;

I have an OCTAVIA 2001 equipped with Symphony-CD audio system.

When I try to search through the FM band using the ">>" key, the audio system does not search the frequencies one after the other, it quickly jumps to specific channels (something like the Intelligent Search feature that comes in some FABIA audio systems).

This was not the case before since the audio system used to search the FM band (not jumps in it).

I don't have the same problem when searching the AM band.

Do any of you know how to solve this problem.

Thanks.

Turn off AF.

hi, i have seen this problem long time ago.....

it turned out to be the amplifier on the roof ( aerial base).

the other thing to check out for is the actual aerial connector at the back of the stereo. Sometimes midlle-centre pin doesnt make sufficient contact and you loose fm stations. If you have a long piece of wire, skimm litle plastic insulation off and stick it in the centre where aerial connector goes in. If you them manage to pick up any local station i would say base needs replacing or broken wire somewhere.

But how can I turn iy off ???

I don't have the same problem when searching the AM band.

Page three of my manual says for the >> button "Briefly press the rocker button to start a station search in the AM range. When in the FM range, you can scroll through the memory list (which I take to mean the previously stored stations)."

Looks like yours is working as intended.

One more thought,

Go into setting [press and hold TP for >2s] and scroll to LOC using the << and >> buttons. Set to LOC OFF so that the radio searches for weaker stations too.

First of all, thank you so much for your reply.

But in the manual you provided me (http://ws.skoda-auto.com/download/4a...y_CarRadio.pdf) on page 7, and also in the one that came with my car radio, it's written that "The appliance now seeks the next station with reception in the set range, FM, AM or TP"

If you meant by turning the AF list off setting REG OFF, it's already set in my car radio. And if you meant something else, please advise.

LOC OFF is also already set in my car radio.

Anyway, what is the type of your car radio that it was mentioned in its manual "Briefly press the rocker button to start a station search in the AM range. When in the FM range, you can scroll through the memory list" and can you please provide me with this manual.

Thank you in advance.

Mine does not say this anywhere. Also, Page 7 is about Autostore and SCN button.

If you meant by turning the AF list off setting REG OFF, it's already set in my car radio. And if you meant something else, please advise. A/F button is only for choosing between the two FM bands and the AM band. It was gagetman who said turn it off. You cannot turn it off as there is nothing to turn off with the A/F button.

LOC OFF is also already set in my car radio. Good, this allows finding weaker signals too.

Mine is the Symphony car radio. The part number of the manual on the back page is 184039414100. The was car built in early 2003.

Thank you in advance.

I have put my comments inside your message above in blue.

You also originally mentioned the Intelligent Search feature on the Fabia. My Symphony radio also has this feature and is activated by pushing the >> button for more than 2 seconds. You can check if yours is in this mode as IS ON will be shown on the display.

I just double checked the function of the >> button on my radio. It scans up in frequency until it finds a station and then stops. You can then store that station by pressing and holding a station button. Similarly, you can scan down the band in frequency by using the << button. It will only stop when it finds a station. Sometimes these are already stored on the radio in which case it displays the button number to the right if the display of the "band" (for example FM 1 2 meaning FM memory band 1, button 2). For new stations it only gives the station name in the display and only if it is FM as AM stations do not broadcast digital data.

It is possible that there have been some changes since yours was made in 2001 and so the page numbers will be different too, but the basics should still be the same.

I hope this helps.

Mike

I checked the actual aerial connector at the back of the car radio system and everything is OK because when I unplug this connector there will be no receiption at all.

But how can I locate the amplifier on the roof ( aerial base) and how can I check it.
