What a day...

Featured Replies

Changed my brakes today. What a day!!!

Got the first front wheel off. Took off the caliper and pads, took the disc off, went to get new disc out of the box and it was the wrong one. Damn!!! Didn't want to put car back together so got Dad to watch the tools while I nipped down to the motor factors in his car. Turns out to be right box wrong contents. DOH!!!

Gets back and carries on. Gets round to last rear wheel where you start bleeding from and BOOM, bleed nipple snaps. F**K!!!

Daaaaaad........

Back down to motor factors in Dad's car for some rear cylinders. Back to car and have to strip all the rear brakes off again praying that nothing else snaps.

Finally finished and I'm off to that party now. LATE!!!! LoL If I don't laugh I'll cry.

that'll learn ya for having a skoda:P

i have days like that sometimes, the worst is when you loose a tool you are using then you go out and buy another one, come back and promptly find it

its ok if you have a second car or a dad who will let you use his.

no chance in the world my old man is gunna let me anywhere near his vrs. same story with mother.

glad you got it all sorted mind.

Bleed nipples on rear brakes have a habit of doing that - any car, not just Skoda. Apply some Plus Gas a couple of minutes before you get to it, then crack it undone very carefully with a good quality wrench that fits right down to the base of the nipple. Once you've got the rust broken you can put a regular ring spanner on it so you can use a bleed hose.

But wrong parts in the box is proper brain damage!

I'm glad it's not just me that had a bad day.

:D

Same happened to me. I later found the rear cylinder was leaking as well anyway so didn't feel too bad about replacing it. On the new ones I put a little copper grease on the bleed nipple threads (avoiding the bleed hole) in the hope that prevents it seizing up again. When it came to brake discs for me there are two types foor the Fav, one pre 4/94 one post 4/94. Mine being registered new after I bought those discs only to find I actually needed the pre 4/94 ones.

It's all good fun and rewarding once you get the job done. Spent my time taking the 25 minute walk to the nearest Skoda dealer as taking the bus would have taken almost as long needing two buses.

haha, yeah i've been there too, my nearest motor factors is an hours walk from here, or a 20 min walk and a bus

The seems to have a VERY long bleed nipple on the rear. Any rot and it's a guarenteed snap.

As for the disks, the box so was already open and taped shut. I should have checked before leaving the shop. Won't be making that mistake again. :(

On a more positive note, the brake pedal is well up and the new Mintex stoppers are bedding in and biting nicely.

All the best people are late for a party.

All the girls will stop and look at your Felly, and with new brakes you can stop and admire them :D
