Thanks in advance!

I live in Marlborough but know Swindon a bit....so.....

Shout away and We'll see what we can do.......I think Penhill is a no no for a start

I heard all area's starting with a 'P' could be a no-no?!

Was looking toward Covingham, Stratton, South Marston for house buying. Wondering if I am searching the right area's? Ideally I'd like to be East and or North of the city centre.

you could be right Penhill, Park north,

Covingham I would steer clear of.... it's not bad ....but then again it's not brilliant either

Stratton isn't bad and South marston is more of a village outside swindon so could be pricey ...Highworth may be worth a look and It's not too far from the likes of Honda etc There are a lot of houses near the motorola plant at Blunsdon that may be what you are after ....close to Walmart/Asda

Abbey Meads?

Abbey Meads?

Not too bad and definitely worth a look ......it's a BIG and new housing development.....and I always get lost in there :o

Thanks for the opinions so far. I really don't want to come across as snotty, I just dont't want to move my family to a 'rough' area!!

So in my good pile, I have Abbey Meads, South Marston and Stratton, oh and Highworth.

I guess the big question is would you be happy living (and children growing up) in those areas?!

What about Blunsdon St Andrew as well?

Blunsden st Andrew I think is quite close to the main A419 dual carriageway so may be noisy but the others are probably the best parts of Swindon for living in....far enough out to be quiet and close enough for shopping etc

If you come down for a look round give us a shout before hand and If we are about we can give you the guided tour.

And don't worry it pays to find the right place....it can make or break the move/job

Oh and believe me there are some bad areas in Swindon

bad parts from experience are:

penhill

toothill

grange park from what ive heard is heading that way

walcot (north and south)

stratton (lived here not the best not the worse but right next to penhill)

covingham as mentioned above by octygone

I would look at abbeymeads, sparcells and around there really or as mentioned above highworth is a nice place and has a nice wine/cider supplying shop:thumbup:

Do you want to live in the town itself, or would you be happy living in a village a few miles outside it? That would open up the choices for nice areas (and lovely roads ) :D

:+1:

my other half works in Swindon and commutes down from Cheltenham everyday!

While the A417/419 is very much NOT one of the lovely roads Chris mentions it makes commuting a doddle!

Somewhere posh like Cirencester is about 25 mins from North East Swindon ;) or even posher Cheltenham is about 40mins :P

Marlborough is only 10 minutes away but I was thinking of the house prices.....if price is no object then then a cheap, small 3 bed house in Marlborough for around £230,000 would fit the bill

Park North

Grange Park

Cheney Manor

Abbey Meads

Toothill

Penhill

Rodbourne

Stratton + Covingham = not as bad as Westlea.

I live in 'Freshbrook' - It's not that bad but does have a small bit of trouble. I would stick to Priory Vale way / Old Town/ Peatmoor Lydiard Park is also nice and doesn't have that many idiots around if you don't want any trouble.

Highworth, Shrivenham, Watchfield or Cirencester are also not that far away with easy roads for the morning drive.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

really don't think there's anything snotty about wanting to avoid moving into what the locals consider a "bad" area

If that offer still stands in late October/early November then I will take you up on that as my move is definately happening.

I'm open to villages to the east (and north of the M4) but they arent cheap! I think my max budget will be 180k.

Somewhere posh like Cirencester is about 25 mins from North East Swindon ;) or even posher Cheltenham is about 40mins :P

Sadly I dont think the budget will stretch that far, I will look at a few agents sites anyways, thanks for the idea's.

If only money was no object! Sadly Marlborough is the wrong side of the M4, its gotta be North/East of Swindon for my commute.

Just didnt want to upset any locals! Currently searching in Highworth, Abbey Meads and Blundson St Andrew. (+Cirencester!)

Yep no problem ...just give us a couple of weeks warning if you can and we'll see what we can do

I grew up in a village (Minety) near Swindon, only moved away about 2 years ago.

I'm going to be honest, it's not the greatest town ever but I would consider it to be "up and coming" (although most places are classed as this these days!) and the North part (Haydon Wick?) is certainly the place to be if you've got children. Parts of Old Town are nice, although that may be too far in town for you. As stated previously, stay away from Penhill at all costs!

Magic Roundabout is great fun, nobody else has a clue what's going on so it's always quite amusing crossing it. And there's pretty much every shop you'll ever need.

Good luck for the move!

i forgot about park north/south and did wonder how freshbrook was these days as it backs onto toothill and grange park.
