Knocking noise!

Featured Replies

Right guys, need some advice,

got my Vrs on tuesday, over the past couple of days over uneven road, I've heard some high pitched knocking noise from what seems to be the steering wheel but I'm not the most mechanically minded, might be suspension?

Want to take it back to get checked as I bought it from a Skoda dealer but 100 miles away:thumbdwn:

Any ideas? Over smooth roads I can't hear it though.

Cheers,

Stan

Could be in order of most likely

Drop links

Consule Bushes

ARB bushes

If high pitched, it may well be just dry bushes that could do with a little lube. White PTFE spray grease works a treat. Comma do it for £3 from factors.

as Moggytech says , front drop links the most likely cause of the noise, and common on the Fabia to go faulty

Cheers MoggyTech,

will any of those three be expensive? If not, I'll be better off getting it sorted down here, save the fuel to get back to London.

The noise reminded me of an old Transit when going over bumps:rofl:

Cheers,

Stan

drop links are between £20 and £30 each

Nah nothing that expensive, especially if you use an indy dealer. Does sound like drop links, but lubing up the other bushes with PTFE wont hurt. Just dont get any on the brakes

Enjoy the car, had mine 10 months and still grinning :D

Just remembered, this might be the infamous dashboard to scuttle panel creak. Fix on here somewhere. So if dealer says nout wrong, could well be the dash creaking. (Noise comes from behind centre air vents area.)

have had the same issue, well Saville's in Worcestershire picked it up. On the way home from work the other night the turbo pipe split causing me to drive at 30 mph hoping the turbo did not give up, simple job and a common fault. Also noted that the top section was loose and rubbing against the cam-belt not good. Once all this was done mechanic drives car to make sure all is Ok and asks if i had noticed a knocking, i say yes, again a common fault is the drop links going off, but here's the kicker with Saville's the guy on the phone the ever sooooo helpful(not) service manager is quoting me 117 quid each??? whats the score on replacing this at a dealer or independent because i can't see how two 20 quid bits tally up to 117 quid each considering "it takes 20 mins to do bud" any help for a genuine fair price? And how unhelpful are they at Savilles apart from the mechanic he seemed sound all the front of house staff are a right happy bunch.not!!!
