Ordered just over week ago - no build date yet

Featured Replies

Ordered about a week ago, but not had a build date or paperwork, only receipt for deposit. Should I nudge the dealer or give it a bit longer???

James

What sort of paperwork are you after?

All I've got is the order form with the deposit marked on it.

As they say "Patience is a virtue & Everything comes to those who wait", I'm sure that the dealer will contact you as soon as they get any news.

If the car has been ordered, they should have the build date by now. Add at least 3 weeks to this for delivery.

From my 'experience' I would chase the paperwork, and ask to review the order on the Skoda system asking the dealer to confirm the spec/options.

Ok fellers, I was gonna wait till Wed, so will do this and check the spec with them. Ta.

Been told Week 52, I ordered beginning of sept.

Is this the build or delivery date? If it is the build date then adding 3 weeks on takes the delivery date into January.

As there is a danger that the delivery could be next year, have you confirmed that the Skoda 'VAT free' offer will also be carried over.

In addition, the 'real' VAT goes back up to 17.5% in January so you could get stung for an extra 2.5%.

Worth checking ...

Yer, Skoda have confirmed that I would need to pay the extra 2.5%.

I think we need to check on this, because as I see it when we order the vehicle, the order form is filled out and all the details checked, we pay a deposit & then sign the order form, which I'm pretty certain would therefore form a legally binding contract between you & the dealer.

This should "Lock" the deal & prices that have been negotiated, which means that they can't increase the price once the contract has been signed.

In my case if they try then they'll be left with a car because I'm not in a position to pay the extra 2½% (£442) on top of the price that I've agreed to pay.

It'll cost me a £250 deposit, but I'll still have a decent car.

I ordered on 15th August and have been a build date of week 42, so delivery mid November.

I don't see how they can expect the customer to stump up the extra 2.5%, as you have a agreed price for the car, however Skoda or the dealer will need to stump up the 2.5% as HM Revenue & Customs will expect it as the sale went through in the 17.5% VAT period. I for one would refuse to pay it and would request a full refund of my deposit!

The VAT increase affects ANYTHING,its happening to people who book weddings, holidays etc... When you pay, its at that pravailing VAT rate. Somebody has to pay the extra, a dealer might swallow it or the customer has to. You could pay it all now, and not be affected.

Order placed via DtD are subject to changes in taxes and price so even then, you could be asked for extra. I was more worried about being asked to pay extra 17.5%! This could in theory, still happen.

Yes, at the 15% VAT rate, but once it goes up, that gets applied to the sale when you make the payment. I.E on collection.

That's why I said that it should be checked.

AFAIC if you have signed an order form & placed a deposit & signed it, you have made a legally binding contract with them, so AFAIC they cannot alter the pricing or details of it.

If someone has the time perhaps they can check:

Sale Of Goods Act 1979 & Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 + any amendments.

Hopefully my car will arrive in November and I won't have to find out!

One way round it could be like you say to pay the full deposit and start the finance before the VAT rise and therefore complete the sale at the 15% rate.

Yes that's an option, but, for me, the longer wait means I can save a bit longer.
