egr valve........... i give up ...

Featured Replies

well to cut a long story short. my 2000 reg fabia, had the emmisions light on, after having the egr valve cleaned already , time to get a replacement, was told by a mechanic that its a lot cheaper to get from a brookers ( roadside rescue) anyway was told would only cost 35 plus postage and that was all tested and all ok.... so i got it and got sum1 i thought could install it properly, i paid them £50 and they installed it in mins, anyway the light returned and i took it back, so they reset it and 10 miles down the road, on again..... have now taken it to my proper garage which i SHOULD have gone in the beginning but was short on cash and was told it would be ok, only to tell me that the egr valve is faulty plus it should have had a number of things done when installed ie cleaning pipes , adapting ecu and have now been charged £192 for a new one inc install. i have gone back to Road side recovery in dorset to be told no money back only exchange. .... can they do this if its faulty , i dont need a new one anymore. and im £50 out of pocked plus the other mechanic install price... wat a waste of time . only proves you should go garage in begining.

???

Bad luck bud, I was going to suggest getting rid of the EGR Valve altogether and fit a bypass pipe but that would trigger your CEL anyways and would still cost you a map to get it isolated. It would of kind of fixed your problem though even if it did create another, but the car would of been perfectly fine to drive.

Edit: Just noticed you have an mpi so dont think it would of helped at all as you are emission tested. I'll shut up! It's still stinking luck though.

The Sale of Goods Act says you're entitled to a refund, replacement or repair on faulty items, even if they're second-hand - although I'm not familiar enough with it to say whether you can choose which of the above to take...
