Will This KILL ME!

Featured Replies

As many of you know am looking at getting a track car. It looks very much like it will me a shi7roen paxo vtr. I noticed this on fleabay and was wondering if i did roll it and plant it on its roof. Would this actually work?? It seems stupidly cheap i know a pr cage would cost no less than £800 upwards. So at nearly 10% of the price it seems a bit cheap.

Thoughts please.

P.S I note it says show cage as well in the title :)

lol hottuning theyre the ones that make the dodgy coilovers where the anti roll bar brackets on the strut bend like melted cheese after driving 2 miles.

There's not enough of it to form a protective structure (where does it anchor to?) and if you roll the car it might actually do more damage to you a) if it comes loose, or B) if it bends/sheers. I'd leave well alone :)

If you stuff a Saxo badly enough you'll probably have more to worry about than just the roof :) They're not renowned for being bombproof. With cages, the only way to go is professional - if you're likely to need it, you want it to work! :)

if you want a track cage stay clear of show cages they do exactly what they say on the tin for show,i have a safety devices cage in my mk 2,look on there website they do good stuff for reasonable money,oh and a mk2 golf makes an excellent track car and they are cheap as nuts!!!!!! and when insurance allows they are simple to drop in a 225bhp 20v result!!!!!!!

That is deffo not a proper roll cage. Its more of a boy racer look at my roll cage in a boggo standard car (and my massive bucket seats) sort of thing.

Why would you want to spend £120 on something that will not protect you?

For a roll cage to work it needs big spreader plates on the floor and be either bolted or welded in, otherwise all that will happen is the legs of the roll cage will just punch holes through the floor when the car rolls, so you will then have to worry about the 'roll cage' hitting you as well as the roof.

With safety items if it's worth doing at all do it properly ............. or not at all.

Save your money for something that might actually give you some protection, like a spool of welding wire. ;) Or a crash helmet.

and to add a little most bolt in cages arn't actually bolt in.....well they are but only when you have welded in the big strenthening plates onto the chassis

Hey mate send us a pm :D am intrested to know what idea you have. As said before it will probs be early next year i get one :)

Thank peeps for all that have pm'd with useful info, what makes a good roll cage i presume steel is the best material as it flexs under strain rather than aluminum which is brital.

INSURANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And i would rather own a kidney stone than have a nova no matter what power output it has! Its worse than a paxo for ultimate ghey!

I can get a paxo vtr insured for under £1k which is what am after. And altho its only a mere 100bhp POWER!!! I REPEAT POWER!! Is not what i want, i just want a good stiff well saughted chassis and a paxo does have a good one! If i want power i will put some money towards it.

But its all well and good saying all these lovely powerful cars but i cant afford to insure ANY OF THEM! I cant even get insured on a paxo vts that adds over another £1k to the insurance!
