Refurbing TT Comps

Featured Replies

I've managed to get some of these alloys now!

there being prepped next week and I'm a bit lost on what style to have them finished in.

I did want the mirrored chrome finish but it was too expencive to revive the finish. So I'm playing with colours and stuff.

There's a light anthracite, a simple light silver, or silver with anthracite inserts. orrr silver with storm blue in the inserts.

not sure what I really want.

if there's any other colour suggestions that I haven't thought about let me in on them!

it willl look darker in life, couldn't get an exact match on photoshop.... I think it would look good when the wheels are spinning and you get a blue tint to the spin. :P

Hi-Power silver with metallic fleck for me. Don't think they look half as good when they're refurbed 'flat'.

Here's the ones I had done...

I Like the pearly finish too. I'll be telling the guy thats the style I want!

thanks buddy!

should be ready to fit by friday!! :D

Nice one mate - look forward to seeing the results. They really are gorgeous wheels when finished properly and suit the Fabia down to a 'T' :)

Steve

Think any finish on these wheels is going to look smart on your motor mate, especially if you get a low profile tyre wrapping them.........

do I need 215's or 205's?

I know the profile I need is 40. 35 profile was too expensive!

thanks:P

Are they 7J wide mate and are you looking to achieve a stretched look or not?

I'm not too sure! I know that their the 17" Audi TT Comps. that's all I know.

7s or 7.5s. I can't quite recall.

205/40 or 215/40 is fine for them Leon. I'd go for 205s myself. But have a look at tyre prices for each size too.

Thinner the tyre the more stretch so 205's IMHO but hey I like the Euro look but tyre prices will change for sure width dependant.........:o

It should tell you on the inside of the wheel somewhere, it will say 7J X17 or 7.5J x 17........

Yep, that info's definitely on the inside of one of the spokes, along with the offset etc

I just don't have any inside wheel pics of the ones I had :o

205's seem pretty decently priced too! I like the stretched look. :)

I cant check the wheels myself as there with the wheel refurnishing people! :P

I want i want i want i want...

thank god you moved away from the coloured insides! Might have been ok with dark blue but saw them colour matched to a bright blue MR ZR recently and it actually made me laugh

Fleck finish is cool - although i remeber seeing some in which fleck were a hologram finish....now that was sweet!

Just be aware that the narrower the tyre (so more it is stretched onto the wheel) the more vulnerable the rim is to curbing, as the rim will stick out from the tyre.

I must admit you can't beat metallic silver with a hint of pearl IMO.

yeah I think If it was a light colour it wouldn't of looked very smart. I'm going for a anthracite insides if its possible. similar to the golf GTI style alloys. :)

kerbing while parking right? if so I'm pretty careful:) they wont kerb by just going round on rough roads will they? cant say I've ever had stretched tyres! :P

The main issue is as you say when parking, but i do know of someone who damaged a rim (with stretched tyres on) when he caught the rim on a pot hole.

I'll need to be super careful then!

quick question though, stretching tyres does this do any thing to the insurance?

i think the big problem with comps is they need to be mirror polished,or they just end up a quite ordinary wheel.

It's hardly a stretch at all running 205s on them, so I wouldn't worry.

I disagree with Gary on the mirror finishing. I think they can look very decent, unless they're just done in a standard painted finish. Mine above looked pretty epic, IMO! :D
