Refurbing TT Comps

Featured Replies

It's hardly a stretch at all running 205s on them, so I wouldn't worry.

Steve

Whereas i agree it's hardly a stretch, the point i was trying to get across is by having a narrower tyre fitted the rim might then be the widest part (or even flush) meaning that if the tyre does brush against anything then rim damage will occur.

I am assuming you would have declared your current wheels to your insurance company, if they required specific information about them that is now different then yes they should be informed.

Yeah, they know about my wheels :) thanks.

I disagree with Gary on the mirror finishing. I think they can look very decent, unless they're just done in a standard painted finish. Mine above looked pretty epic, IMO! :D

Steve

I cant wait! :D haha.

I like the mirrored finish too. but I have a feeling that they would also be quite difficult to protect properly I think...

I'll stick to the plan!

as for tyres any brands that you would recommend? I know there's a few sub brands from the higher priced ones but I don't know who's who! :(

Yep, take that point. I'll try and find some photos of them fitted with 205s. With the construction of the wheel, and a reasonable tyre with a rim protector (T1-R as an example) I can't see it as a major issue. There isn't really a protrusion.

7.5J 18s on a Fabia, with a 30 or 35 profile - yes, but with this setup - no, not really :)

i'd go for 195's or if your daring i think nankang do a 185 17 for a bit of extreme stretch:D

i've just never seen any that looked awesome painted, they just look like a wheel to me unless polished but its different strokes for different folks i supose,go on then and prove me wrong;)

hmmm maybe when I need another set of tyres I might! I'll stick to 205's just waiting to see what they looked like on Steve's

:P next on the list is springs! roll on the day I get paid :)

hey hey!!

quick question does anyone know the size of the center caps for the comps?

my tyres arrived today :) getting them fitted tomorow!! very excited!

Same std size as the Skoda ones, or the BBS ones you have! 56mm IIRC.

I'm wondering weather to go for Skoda caps or Audi ones.... :) I like the ones that come on the RS4 with the chrome Audi badge and a ring with a dark grey matt finish

found some oem Audi caps online there £25.99 each!!!! ouch!!! :(

Yeah, know what you mean. I'd go for some black and silver Skoda ones - if any were available. I don't think the green of the std Skoda ones works that well with the Comps...

Or I have some new Seat ones sitting here, if you really want to confuse people :D

I also have a 3 of the above with the chrome rings and 1 without the chrome ring if interested, but personally i would put Skoda badges on them.

Actually, thinking about it Leon - I might have some Audi ones knocking about. I'll check for you and let you know - so you've at least got some options.

and theres no skoda ones on ebay at all! :(

I don't fancy paying full what for em!

arrgh!!! forgotten pain needs to harden over a week!!! :(

another week before I can put the tyres on them!!!

collect them at 2 :)

Maybe not a week, but certainly a few days somewhere reasonably warm if possible

Can't remember where mine came from, as I've had that many sets of wheels! I've not had a look yet, but will let you know later.

I expect some photos just after 1400 then :D
