Probable new FL VRS buyer

Featured Replies

I had been thinking about changing my car several months ago for a Superb SE from my current Focus ST. Due to cost to change I decided against it until 2011 when I had a plan to take up caravanning again. However this has now been vetoed by SWMBO!!!

So casually looking through car sites as I do too often, I suddenly saw that Skoda are doing a no VAT and interest free deal.

I had considered before a VRS 170 CR and DSG and so the last 24 hours I have been busy gathering info on new car and am now in the market to buy one

Options I want are rear parking sensors, rear sunblind, spare wheel, MaxiDot, auto dim mirror.

This comes to £18181 with the VAT off so I am negotiating with a dealer to see if they can get this down to £16988, the price quoted by DriveTheDeal.

A couple of questions

What does MDI give you over the aux connection in the Jumbo box?

What material is the outer edges of the seats, leather or imitation leather?

Does the spare wheel option come from the factory or do dealers put ii in?

How much is a DPF filter and how often is it needed?

Afraid your too late to get the VAT deal, its only for cars registered before the end of the year. Skoda will honour it for existing orders but anything ordered now will be well into Jan. Unless you can get a cancelled order for a stock car.

MDI gives you track info in the Maxidot.

Outside of seats is real leather.

Spare wheel is a factory option.

Dunno about the DPF, after reading all the horror reports on it and DMFs and other CR gremlins I went for a petrol.

DPF (Diesel Particulates Filter) - It's filter that's found in the exhaust system, it takes out all of the large soot particles in the exhaust gases.

It needs to be cleaned every so often, which is done by doing 40mph+ for around about 20mins or so, that way it create enough heat to then burn off the crap that's built up in it.

This is only required if you do loads of short journeys and don't do many long ones.

MDI (Media Device Interface) - It allows you to attach a MP3 player or Ipod to the sound system of your car, it's around about £150 as a factory option plus the cost of the cable, usually around £25 for Ipod.

You don't really need it if you have your music collection on your PC in MP3 format and the collection is less than 32Gb in size, as you can fit it on a SDHC card & insert it into the Bolero (Radio) or Columbus' (SatNav/Radio) SD card slot, the only time it's really needed is if your music collection is greater than 32Gb or is entirely in the Apple AAC or MP4 protected formats, in which case you'd need an Ipod to play it on your system.

Thanks for info.

Dealer did not think it would be a problem, his last VRS came through in 8 weeks and generally the delivery situation on Skodas is improving.

The ending of the scrappage scheme in Germany has eased the demand

However I need to order by 30th September as there is a price increase of 2 to 3% from 1st October

IJ Thanks

My daily commute is 25 miles on nearly all motorway at 70mph

Then in that case you'd not need to worry about the DPF becoming clogged up & a fault light coming on.

What price increase??? The only increase you'll get hit is the VAT increase in Jan. Sounds like the dealer is trying to bag a sale before the end of the month. He's not going to risk it and tell you it will take longer than 8 weeks, I've been quoted 16 weeks so its up to you! Ask him if the deal will be honoured should it take longer, or you might want to wait until after xmas when the market is expect to go stale.

Don't let the dealer pressure or rush you into a sale! Shop around, I used DtD only cos I got nowhere with most of the dealers in my county, that or just quoting list price!

I was told about a price increase as well and that was in August, it was a combination of that & the looming deadline for VAT free & 0% finance that made me do the deal then.

With hindsight I may well have lost out, because of the increase in used car prices, still easy come, easy go. I'm just glad to be rid of the "Jonah" called my Golf.

I can only imagine the dealers are living off scrappage cos they just fobbed me off when i was driving around the forecourts with a grand burning a hole in my pocket!

The CR TDI will feel bit slow after an ST....

I know :( and my ST has been remapped to 270hp ;)

But as I get older I find I drive it less fast and very rarely use its full performance :thumbdwn:

When I bought it 3 years ago petrol was about 70p a litre and now its nearly £1.10

I do 15000 miles a year at 30mpg = 500 gallons @ c£5 so £2500

If I get about 50mpg from VRS CR = 300 gals @ c£5 then £1500

I did have fun time last year however when I did 30 laps around the Nurburgring :D :D

It did 11mpg

Interesting I've been looking to change the fabia for the new octivia and the dealer suggested this deal. He seem to think there would be no problem in placing an order. Only thing he suggested was I placed before the end of the month as in October the price increase comes into effect.

I spoke to Skoda who told me, and just quotes, the T&C that the car must be registered BEFORE 1St Jan. Dealer cannot register it unless its in their possesion and in the country. If the dealer is willing to confirm in writing that should'nt be a problem.

Theoretically, they should be able to register it before it arrives as they should be able to access the cars details via the SUK network computer, which will have the VIN & all of the details that they need to fill in on the necessary DVLA form.

Just relaying what Skoda said, it needs to be at the dealer before its registered.

UPDATE!!

Had a busy day ringing round to see if I could get a deal I'm happy with

My target is £17000 as post 1

Local Northampton dealer came back late today and could only get to £18000 and £7450 for mine, terrible IMO:thumbdwn:

Spoke to DTD and they were not interested in a PX so stalled on that one

Marlborough Skoda (Isleworth) were helpful and would do car £17000 but and its a big but

he checked with SUK and if the car was not delivered by 31-12-09, I would have to pay the price rise of 3% and the extra 2 1/2% VAT. That might be £900 for the 2, so I hesitated.

Then late tonight Progress Bedford came up with a deal. New car for £17250 and £9000 for mine. He will maintain the price on my PX until whenever the VRS arrives, also the price is fixed as far as Skoda's price rise is concerned but I would have to pay the extra VAT if registered next year. He was pretty sure car will arrive this year.

I have to sign on the dotted line by Wednesday to price protect against the SUK price increase

Going to think about it this evening but almost certain to say yes

Is that £17000 for just a base car with DSG? I'm also interested in changing the fabia vrs for the octavia.

The spec I have ordered is

VRS CR170 with DSG

Rear parking sensors

Steel spare wheel

Rear sunblind

Maxidot

Auto dim mirror

Agreed price is £17250 and is price protected and order is in with SUK before this weekends 3% price rise

that is a good price by my working out thats just over £1000 cheaper than just the standard VAT saving.

What is the price of the car? Or have they discounted else where?

If you dont want to post on here then please feel free to PM. As I could do with some ammo for this weekend. ;)
