Flywheel

Featured Replies

Just had my cam belt done at Skoda £253,

They rang me before hand to tell me they noticed a vibration in the flywheel

and to replace this would be another £800.

well as I dont have that type of cash I have had to leave this for now

question is,

is this a reasonable price , should I shop around

would I be better sticking with Skoda

Or, Is it a scare tactic to get more work done that is not really needed.

Which I hope is not the answer

thanks for your thoughts in advace

Have you noticed any vibration before you took it in for the cambelt ? have you noticed it since ?

As jzc008 says did you notice any problems before hand? I'd keep driving it and see what develops. Then get competitive quotes if there is a problem.

Better not to wait any moment. Once the flywheel comes loose, you will loose the transmission and get a horrible repair bill. It happened in 2005 with my Golf III, I had to pay about 1800 Euro's.

Thanks for the reply guys

I have never noticed any vibration NO.

But when the engine idles it does appear to run a little jummpy(sound I mean rather than by sight)

it does sound arkward at idle yes

in the past if I deppresed the clutch I have found the engine sounds a lot quieter

But on speaking to other octavia owners

they have always agreed it is a little nosiey on idle

Thanks for that constant

I think I would bin this car rather than spend that on it:D

Theres now a single mass flywheel to replace the DMF on the MK2 Octy now.

Yes I noticed that storm,

when I was making a search before I posted the original message

But how does that effect the price range.

Is the price I have been quoted a competative one

or is it the usual over inflated dealer price

How about taking out a 3rd party warrantee and keeping your fingers crossed for a couple of months

The Mk3 Golf comment isn't really applicable as that was a single mass flywheel. The vibration in yours, if any would be down to the springs being knackered in the DMF. Ask them to demonstrate the vibration.

The third party warranty isn't a bad idea if it's a decent one that will cover this (read all the small print very carefully before shelling out), but get it sooner rather than later.

the problem with the SMF's is that it shakes your gearbox to bits.

My SMF has no vibration and is smooth with no shaking and very positive gearchange now.A huge difference to the DMF that was replaced which juddered and rattled and vibrated like hell.

Its a thought But.

This may not be an option as it has already been identified as a possible breakdown

and has been noted on the recipte I recieved from the dealership

I have never had a problem with gear change

this has always been smooth

But does this mean. that James MC

has had a bad job done on his

How about the price guys

no one has mentioed this

is this standerd priceing near on 800 smackeroonies

Sorry Halwit i forgot to mention that mine was done under warranty so i don,t know pricing for this.

Regards to gearchange i meant to say its positive as in when you lift clutch pedal in gear it picks up smoothly as my DMF used to judder upon lifting.
