How many mile will a 1.4 engine do ?

My 2003 1.4 Octavia has 84,000 mile up, it runs great, good mpg, uses about half litre of oil per 1000 mls. I just had it seviced and oil changed.

It does sound noisy though when ticking over, it has a slight diesel sound (no knocks), is this normal? Could it be piston slap? How many miles could I expect from this over worked 1.4 engine.? Can anyone else please compare their 1.4 engine and see if it is noisy, it's definitely is not as quiet as some of the Japanese engines.
