Light Assistant???

Featured Replies

Just looking online at prices for the new vRS and noticed the auto dimming rear mirror with light assistant. Now i know what the dimming mirror is etc... but what exactly is the light assistant?

Cheers

Dave.

they are 'coming home, leaving home and tunnel lights', basically when it is dark they come on when you open the car, stay on when you lock it for a few secs and when you drive through a tunnel or it gets a bit dark they come on automatically when set to 'Auto'

Cheers for that..... Sounds like the same setup as on my folks new V70.

For the price i think i'll add it to the options list. :D

Cheers

Used to have the auto / tunnel side of it on our old IS200 but without the dimming mirror. The folks V70 has the dimming mirror and auto lights with welcome home etc. as standard.

My dad's A3 has got this, he likes it for parking it in the garage, but I have noticed the lights do come on even when it isn't that dark

Thinking about it..... Would the lights coming on/off all the time be a problem with the xenons????? Do they like being fired up/down for short periods of time???

I'm thinking of when i go to work as i pass under quite a few bridges that always used to set the Lexus lights off when passing through/under them.

By the way if i went for the vRS i'd be going for the bi-xenons option hence me asking this new question.

Cheers

Dave.

With my dads car they tend to come on when the lights a bit low, before the point where I think they are necessary. He's had the car about 3 years now with no problems, can't remember if he has xenons though.

CH/LH isnt activated on my car. The courtesy lights in the mirror will do the trick for me. As CH/LH is turning the Xenons on and off I turned it off. Xenons dont like to be turned on and off everytime.

Same for the tunnel lights (which is std in Germany). I always drive with the lights on, so no need for the assistant to do its job.

What I like are the dimming mirrors, inside as well as outside (allthough the facelifted cars will only get the drivers side mirror that dimms. Pre FL got both). The option for the outside dimming mirrors gives you the boarding lights in the mirrors (so it is in our option list).

Bi Xenon is no option on an Octavia it will only have single Xenon.

Also a lot of Octavias over here (pre FL as well as the interior FL) have troubles with their tunnellights. Sometimes they dont work as they should.

hmmmm interesting.. The options list i'm looking at online states the following for the xenons..... "Bi Xenon headlights with adaptive front lighting system and headlight washers" @ £700.

Are they just normal xenons on the FL vRS then???

Cheers

Dave.

Just ordered a Snow-monster, were on the SE spec light assist and rain sensor + auto dim mirror are separate options.

Went for the light assist but not the rain sensor based on my experience with the wife's Corsa which has both as standard.

Auto lights I think are great; leave them in auto and they do there own thing (exception being fog, often have to revert to manual selection).

Rain sensing wipers not so keen on, don't always wipe when you want or they go to max when there's no need, plus you still have to select them when it rains.

Hi Dave

All Octavias only have normal Xenons, not even the FL has BiXenon (not even as an option). Normal lights are Xenon and high beam are the old H1 Halogens.

I agree about the rain sensor, the cars I have driven that have it all seem to leave it slightly too long before coming on (particularly Peugeots)

Is this correct??? only 2 out of the 3 mirrors dims?????

I know its all about saving pennies - but - is the glare in the passenger mirror any less??

No you don't - they are rain sensing! Leave them on all the time and when it rains they come on! I currently have a loan car (long story) and that has standard wipers, and they are just crap. Constantly having to change the wiper speed on the stalk. Can't wait to get my car back (if I ever do).

Had to check my 2011 vRS today as I wasnt aware the outside mirrors dimmed, and I can confirm mine dont. I have light assistant, rain sensing wipers and dimming internal mirror, but not outside.

I remember someone with a L&K having the dimming door mirrors as one had broken and the glass was expensive to replace. I've never come across another model with them

auto dimming applies to the rear view mirror, not to the door/wing mirrors!

the door mirrors only have heating.

i recently had to replace my driver's side mirror. there was a difference of almost $300 AUD between mirror with just heating, and mirror with heating and autodimming!!!

I was pretty sure of that aswell. was replying to UK_Greg who said he was disapointed with them reducing the auto dimming to only the drivers door and internal mirror. As you said - not the case.
